Easiest thing to do is copying a simple drawing by a famous artist, like Van Gogh. When you make a drawing based on a photo, or an actual spot, or a painting, you have to make so many decisions about what to put in, and what to leave out, and how to simplify it and translate it to paper. An artist's drawing has done most of the work for you.

One thing you can do is lay a sheet of acetate over a picture, take a Sanford Sharpie marker (fine tip or extra fine) and trace some outlines of the picture on the acetate (sharpie ink sticks well to plastic). Then lay the acetate sheet on a copier and print it onto copier paper for, usually, five or ten cents.

It's fun to copy drawings like this, or totally original drawings, because you can make your own prints and shade or color them to experiment with pencils and paint and markers, and you don't worry about messing up your original drawing. Also, you can do watercolor over your ink drawings if you copy them onto paper, since watercolor will make the ink run on the originals.

And you can blow your pictures up to 11x17 on most machines, and many Kinkos have a machine that will blow them up to 18x24". Most copiers will accept your own sheets of good drawing or watercolor paper if you cut them to the same size as that of the machine.
