I think most puppies do it, they eat it for the nutrients in it.
If u go to vets or a good pet shop, u can buy some tablets that contain these nutrients - sorry, cant remember what they are called. They work by replacing the nutrients in your dog, therefore it doesnt need to eat the poo for them.

They work - I got some for my dog when she had been out & then came in & breathed her poo breathe in my face!!! eeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww lol

HA HA HA.

Yes they eat thier poo, if you had a cat he would eat thier poo. As you will find they will sometime roll in poo too.

Unfortunately it's dog behavior, disgusting as it is.

It is important for dog owners to know that this behavior is normal for a mother dog with pups. Newborn pups must learn to urinate and defecate. The mother teaches the pups by licking their bottoms. The pups respond to this "tickle" by urinating and
defecating. The mother then consumes the pups' excrement, which serves two protective purposes: it keeps the den area clean and it removes smells that could attract a predator.
Some pups learn this behavior from their mothers and will stimulate themselves and consume their own feces. Most pups stop by the time they are weaned.

It is more difficult to understand why adult dogs eat feces. Some dogs will learn this behavior from other dogs. In some cases, eating feces may be an attention-seeking behavior. For some dogs it is possibly due to anxiety or boredom. Most often the
motivation for eating feces is just not known.

Don't allow the opportunity to arise. Keep the dog's yard clean by disposing of feces promptly. Move the cat box out of the dog's reach. If cleaning the outdoor area is not feasible, then
keep the dog on a leash or use a muzzle when outside.

The best solution is to supervise the dog and not let it develop the habit. They gain no nutrients from this icky habit in fact it could develop into something worse.. they could possibly get worms or other parasites. Excriment is what the body does not digest which is why it's called "waste".

It's just a matter of training and keeping a watchful eye.

Good Luck

My dog's a year and a half now and she use to do the same thing.
I asked my vet, and she said it was because the dog poo still (to the dog atleast) has the smell of their food. it's normal for them to want to eat it, but should not be encouraged.
As soon as your dog poop's, put Tabasco sauce on it. The taste is alot stronger to dogs, and it will turn your dog off once he tries to eat it. After a few times, your dog will figure it out and stop.
If Tabasco sauce doesn't work, vet's sell a spray called Variton. It's uses on animal bandages so they won't eat or pull them off. It's odourless and colorless, and the dogs hate the taste of it. It's really strong and will work if nothing else does. Hope I could help. :)

Hi there I know its discusting but don't worry its actually a common thing with puppies Its something to do with them being able to smell undigested food and puppies being greedy eat it. My doberman did it for ages we tried everything running outside with chillie sauce everytime he had passed motion and he still ate it!! I was told that if you feed them pinapple it dosent taste very nice when it comes out at the other end and stops them eating it. If none of this works I can assure you as puppy gets older it will stop doing it.

Hope this helps

Good Luck

Make him a spot to use as a loo, take him there regularly through the day and wait with him til he goes then reward him and clear it up straight away.
Don't leave it lying around. Pick him up and mve him away from it if you catch him out of the loo area, then go back and clear it up.
Never punish him for eating it or going in the wrong place. It will mke him go behind the sofa or hide it somewhere else; or hide it by eating it.
Always reward for going in the right place and give him plenty of chances to get it right.
Try putting a pineapple chunk in his food, it contains papain which will help him digest his food properly. And feed a good quality puppy food.

You can buy a product at Petco called Deter. It is a tablet you give your dog daily and will stop them from eating feces. You only have to use it for a few weeks and then the habit will be broken. The price is around $9-$10. It works!!!

Apparently it's quite normal for dogs to eat poo..(umm nice)....I read in a book that you should startle the dog when you catch him eating it, so next time he goes to do it, he relates eating it with horrible sound. Good luck

It is a natural thing that a whole lot of dogs do mine eats out of my cats litter box. . If you want to stop him tell him no in a voice that tells him who is the boss. But do not be to mean or he might fear you. To help make it so you can say it in a loud commanding voice play with your puppy a whole lot if you dont already i hope that helped you bye.

My dog use to do this. Go to your vet and find out if he is old enough for this but the vet sells a produce called "Forbid". You sprinkle it on their food. The puppy eats it for three days. What this does is make his poop taste awful to him when he goes to eat it. (even thought you would think poop already tasted bad. LOL!) It makes them stop eating it.
Also he is a puppy. Might grow out of it.
Good luck!

My puppy ate his own poo, my toddlers poo (he got it out of the garbage), as well as my cats poo. Yep- they sure like poo, but the vet said it was not harmful.
