I think it means he has "lust in his heart" and is hoping any female reading it will imagine herself with such a 'manly man'--- and maybe, if god answers his prayers-- give him a call so he can prove how "hetro" he is.
He should remember St Paul's advice: It is better to marry than to burn...

I would say that means he wants everyone to "know" he is straight, maybe trying to convince himself of it. Who knows, It would make me suspicious though.

Sounds like he's scared of gay people and fears that he may be one. He has been taught (through his church) that being gay is bad, so when he discovered he digs dudes, he got freaked out.
