Show him how you tie yours . Then tie his ; and do that a few times . Then take his hands and tie each shoe until he is ready to try . Do each step , one at a time . First cross the lace ; then loop one side & then the other ; then pull the appropriate ends . It doesn't take a lot of skill ; only a lot of patience . It may take time -do not show impatience or the child will give up . Praise and encouragement go a long way .

I didn't teach by a song. I just showed them. Well, actually I showed our 6 yr old and then our 4 yr old wanted to learn the same day. Now they tie everything---errrrrr :-)

I know how to tie my shoe.
I take the loop and push it through.
It's very hard to make it stay because my thumb gets in the way. (It's also the name of a children's book). I Know How to Tie My Shoe.

Read the mother goose book to the baby, talk to the baby, and listen to lots of classic music...like mozart, chopin, and other people like that...I had my mom do that with my brother and he just turned 5 and he can talk like a 30 year old man....with the brains of one to..well good luck and love that baby every second..
