well most salt comes from germany because they mine it out.

don't know if it is specific to Britain
and this will make me sound so boring but high pressure water is forced down a pipe and then pumped in to a drying room and all the water is evaporated leaving salt its then put into packets and you sprinkle it on your chips

i have no idea... but i did go to the salt mines in Poland it was beautiful. you should see if there is a website for it. they made rooms and statues from salt even glass chandeliers.
