I started on an internet dating service. It is interesting to see how many people are out there. I ended up meeting three men this way. Talking with several and I also met my future husband there.

I think you could check in your town different societies and start attending most interesting. I am sure you will meet lots of interested people there.

Do not try to find a man in a bar, as this is the wrong place although sometimes it works for some people.

Go to museums, find people (men and women) who share similar interests. Find a hobby for yourself if you have not got one yet.

I am sure you will be all right. Your son will understand, as he is a big boy and has a girlfriend himself.

Good luck and best wishes!

First you need to tell your son how you feel because he will appreciate the fact that you trust and respect his maturity to go out and enjoy himself. He will also appreciate your need for company in his absence. Then just go out an enjoy yourself. Take up a hobby, do whatever, but it's time you started thinking of yourself again after being predominently a parent for 16 years.

Enjoy!

Join a gym and take your son with you for the first few times for moral support, I go to the gym with my kids and its great fun and I've made a few new friends. My kids are 14 and 16.

it's tough, but i hang out with my co-workers and we go out.... i just try to be friendly wherever i am.... i'd say that was my personality too.... so i've met women even in the grocery store, not for a dating purposes, just to create a new friendship... go to local "events in the park" and just get out there.... the first step is the hardest, but also the most satisfying....
