They usually give instructions on the box or bag. However, the power or wattage of your microwave can make a difference. When I pop popcorn in my microwave at home I usually set it for 3 1/2 mins. but it usually doesnt take that long. I listen. When the popping slows down, then it is probably done. Any longer than that and you burn your popcorn.

I know what you mean about the popcorn button, that never works!

Unfortunately, it depends on your microwave oven. The wattage etc., Mine is 1200 and it takes 3 1/2 minutes to pop a bag of popcorn perfectly. You will have to experiment. I set the time for what the bag calls for (4 minutes) and then listen. As soon as the corn is reduced in popping noises, (like a couple of seconds in between pops) I stop it. Then you can look at your timer and see how long it took. Record or remember that for the future. I have a popcorn button on mine also, but I found that this method is best, because it pops it to my liking. I don't like half the bag full of 'old maids' or scorched popcorn. Good luck!

In general stop your microwave when the popping is slowed to one pop every 2 seconds. For ours that means 3 minutes on high power, but listen carefully so it doesn't start to burn on the bottom.

We don't have a "popcorn button," must be disadvantaged.

you can keep poping till the poping goes down to a slow pop near the end time you have to play around a bit with timeing to get exact time
one thing I like to mention not all microwaves are created equal some of the cheep ones have no were the same amount of power the more expensive ones do
so it sounds Like you got a low end microwave which takes longer to do the same work as a full sized model

How about you grow up and stop acting like a 5year old and read the instructions on the back of the box, or the bag of popcorn..

I'd suggest you start at 3 min and add a half min every time you get half popped popcorn. When you get to a fully popped bag with no burnt kernels, that should do it.

Long as the instruction say. Longer than that will burn the popcorn. Depend on your taste.

Just put it in, time it on the highest (normal) setting and then listen. When the pops are a few seconds apart and it sounds like it doesn't have much popping left to do, it's done.

I just set for 10 minutes on high, hang out and remove when the popping slows down.
