If you are getting a puppy, almost any breed can get along with cats. Especially if he/she is exposed to them from an early age.

Be wary of dogs with prey drives. Breeds with strong instincts to hunt and chase.

Most small dogs are not good with other animals they tend to be sausy and erridable . i have a small dog he is an Austrialan silkey terrior. He is very calm dont like other small dogs but loves big ones i never put him around a cat before but he loves my rabbit. But if u are getting a dog most are very hyper at a young age i would suggest to adopt a 2 - 4 year old dog from a shelter that is trained and gets along with other animals . That would be the best thing to do if you want a non hyper dog unless you want to go through about 1 and a half years of training and getting scrathed up by a cat. Hope this helped

I have had Boston terrier, Pug, Pomeranian, Chihuahuas, Poodles, Doxie mix, Pekes, all in my home with several cats, and all got along well. Some were even the best of friends! At the pet day care, a Maltese, Bichon frise, and a cat are inseparable friends.

If you get a puppy it will usually adjust. Just don't get a breed that has a temper or is very territorial and it should be fine.

(I've got cats and have been considering a Corgi - it isn't a really small dog, but they have a big heart.)

Oh, and Pugs get along with everything.

The breed really doesn't matter if you properly introduce them and socialize them. Its easier to get a dog that is already known to get along with cats by adopting from a shelter that has had dogs in say foster homes with cats. Or to start off with a puppy.

I have a Bichon Frise and he is "best friends" with the cat. They play and sleep together and appear to be lonely when they are apart. I've had similar luck with toy poodles and Poms. I actually prefer the poodles because they are easier to groom.

it is not about the dog getting along with the cats..it is about the cats getting along with the dog.

I have a Lhapsa Apso and he loves cats because when he was a puppy he was around them...but the cats did not like him at all.

I have 2 Boston Terriers and they are very good with my cats. The puppy just has to be raised around them. Good Luck!!!
