It might be time to change his brand of food if he appears to be getting dander and a dull coat.

Or stay with that food and add essentional oils to his diet

Or it might be that winter weather has made your indoor humidity to low and this is drying out his skin and coat.

Change his food to a better brand, Iams or Science Diet, if this is out of your price range, try Kitten Chow Indoor formula it works fairly well. Also feed the cat eggs and yogurt , only in small doses, these will increase the shine of the coat. Brushing on a regular basis helps with the coat as well.

Try Indoor Cat food by Nutro Natural Choice. They guarantee healthy skin and coat. They provide a special indoor formula since the cat isn't getting the UV rays from the sun as much as an outdoor kitty might, also it isn't eating grass, bugs or other unmentionables that outdoor cats do.

A bright shiny coat is a sign of vigor and good health. We want our pets to look and feel their best and grooming helps achieve this goal. All cats benefit from regular grooming. Look at the website provided for more information....

Feed him 1 raw egg - beaten lightly and at room temperature. You can mix it with his regular food. Most people who do this regularly (feed their cat od dog raw egg once a day) swear that its made their pets' skin and coat really healthy looking - thick and shiny. I do it too, but my every now and then, but my pets' coats have never really been dull looking. I noticed though that their fur became really soft after I fed them Purina "All Naturals" dry kibble (just a handful every day along with their regular wet food).

Better food. When I switched my (overweight) cat from Friskies or something to Iams, not only did he lose weight, but his fur became softer and shinier.

If he is a domestic cat he won't have shiny fur, but fluffy and soft. A tabby cat will have soft and shiny fur if you pet him. (The difference between domestic and tabbys are that tabbys have stripes while domestics are fluffier.)
