I know that not all Christians are condescending, but I've noticed that some have made very ugly remarks regarding us nonbelievers afterlives.

I don't know why. It sickens me too, and I'm a real Christian - not the kind that needs to insult those who don't believe like me. I think you should do whatever makes you happy, and I am sorry for the insults you and I BOTH have to undergo - because we don't think like them.

How is it a condescending comment if you have no belief in Hell or any afterlife.

If someone said that I'm going to spend eternity in the belly of the Lochness monster....I wouldn't care in the least bit.

I think for some, it's because they can't convince someone of "God's love" through their bible, so they resort to fear tactics.

For others, they genuinely believe we are going to hell and torment and they want to "warn" us.. although the former is much more likely the case on here.

Even more likely is that they get frustrated or angry with those that they perceive are attacking them, so they resort to using this as an insult to us and a comfort to them.

No matter what they believe, for us, it's a matter of considering the source. We know better :)

Some people can't think outside the box.
Some people can't think ouside the book.

It's easy to put people down when you don't have to think about the other's viewpoint.

Scientists and philosophers and people who understand logic must occasionally question the validity of their own viewpoint. Christians have the luxury of simply assuming that they are right, and that everyone else is wrong. Seeing their viewpoint superior, they believe themselves superior, and condescending attitudes are part of the package for some.

Nobody has a heaven or hell to put you in, what christians fail to realize is every man will face God on judgement day to give an account, so if they were trying to belittle a person, He saw it and will or already has dealt with it. The greatest commandment in our fatih is to love, not argue points. If we live like REAL CHRISTIANS, you know what we wouldn't even have to open our mouths because our very life will resemble Christ. So I'm not interested in the name, be interested in the act. Christians are those who are like Christ.

I was 53 when I came to know The Truth.... and knowing the fate of those who do not Know The Truth is very hard to deal with... some do come accross a bit as you describe... I know that you do not know you are... if you did "know" you would not be a non-believer... but untill you are to the point of needing God there is no way The Truth will mean any thing to you... I do not "preach" The Salvation Message to non-believers who do not ask for the information... I make known that I am available to answer any question one might have about the basicss of my faith... and leave it to God to direct those who are lost to me if I am the one God feels I can be of help.... got a question? you may email me if you do.

I have not heard any ugly remark about an atheist's afterlife uglier than an atheist's remark about a Christian's present life.

These "SOME Christians" have certain weaknesses in their faith. They choose to be impatient and reactive. Instead of having the peace of Christ rule in their hearts.

Please forgive them. If you ever want an open minded discussion with a Christian you can IM me.

Peace!
If you have denied God, which means you do not want any part of him, do you still expect him to accept you in his kingdom? I am not saying that to threaten you. All I am saying is you have made a choice. However, God is a loving and merciful God and he does not want any of his children to go to hell so you can still make it.

They are ignorant and illiterate.
I usually reply with this:

Ecclesiasticus
Chapter 1

36 Be not incredulous to the fear of the Lord: and come not to him with a double heart. 37 Be not a hypocrite in the sight of men, and let not thy lips be a stumblingblock to thee. 38 Watch over them, lest thou fall, and bring dishonour upon thy soul, 39 And God discover thy secrets, and cast thee down in the midst of the congregation. 40 Because thou camest to the Lord wickedly, and thy heart is full of guile and deceit.
