I also have thick and curly hair and i get it layered,it makes things alot easier and your hair easier to manage.i got it razor cut once and it destroyed my hair(made it look really fluffy).A razor cut is not recommended on thick and curly hair my hairdresser couldn't believe her fill in gave me one,she went ballistic

I have very thick hair and not just thick but lots of it. I asked my stylist to thin it too and she said no way! When it grows back it looks horrible! So I grew my hair long (middle of back) and have a lot of layers put in, starting 1/2 way down. Then have her take those chomping scissors thingies (the ones that only cut several strands of hair in a section she puts in there). That and lowlights in a darker color gives definition and takes away from the poofyness of our hair type. Highlights anything lighter than your natural color add to the dryness and poofyness look. I am a medium brown and have black and red lowlights and that new hair blow dryer, from Conair I think, that brushes your hair while you are drying it is AWESOME! It is so worth the $60. I have never ever liked blow drying my hair it takes too long and adds the frizzies, but not this one! Get this blow dryer, add layers, get your hair colored and you will LOVE your hair, like I now do.

Hair dressers often have special scissors to thin out hair. Layers could help. Or you could try to find a shampoo that doesn't weigh much, it makes your hair lighter and less thick to the touch. (then again, if you straighten it, a shampoo that makes your hair heavier will make it fall down easily)

i have thick unruly myself and I find the best way to thin it out is to have your hair stylist cut LONG layers to reduce volume at the bottom so you dont wind up with triangular shaped hair. this style looks good both curly and straight. it also helps if you defrizz with a little shine serum or a product like john frieda's antifrizz.

DO NOT ASK FOR LAYERS. Curly haired people should never get layers. The hairdresser can use thinning shears to thin your hair out but DON'T get layers unless you want your head to look like a muffin.

And you're COMPLAINING?!

If you get your thick, curly hair layered, you will end up with flippy curls all over your head. A style I tried a long time ago. Cute though.

ask for "thinning shears". they are saw toothed scissors that will layer the hair underneath and remove much of the body.

I am a guy and have soft but thick hair, I have thinners used on mine each time to allow the hair to lay properly.

Theres two things that you can do...Obviously you can go to your hairstylist and ask them to thin it out or layer it...Either one will help out alot....another thing you can do is grab your regular razor and lightly use it as a brush i ur hair....Not like on your scalp, but lyk the ends and stuff...You have to be very careful , but I've done it quite abit of times and it helps thin it out, and you don't spend money...Just remember to be careful not to take a tremendous amount of hair out.....

Ask your stylist to layer your hair.

One word of advice, start with long layers...so make sure to ask him or her to put LONG layers in your hair. I didn't like the shorter more typical layers in hair. You can always go shorter, but you have to wait for the layers to grow out if they're too short!
