Mega Myth: "Women yes, Men no. Men are designed to spread their seed. "

I can't believe people still buy this one. That makes some assumptions about women: that they are needy creatures who "need" a protector and provider. Well let's imagine for a moment that women are self-suffucient beings, fully capable of taking care of themselves AND a child. Man did not become the world's top predator because of his size or physical strength. That happened because we're smart. Damn smart. Probably a little too smart (think global warming, nuclear war, pollution, pesticides, preservatives...). Now if anyone suggests that I'm wrong in saying that women are at LEAST as smart as men, I'm gonna scream. I'm not a women's lib kind of gal, as I believe VERY strongly that both sexes are equal beings despite their diffrences. But I have to wonder if maybe the reason that women excel in languages and communication (as opposed to men's adeptness at industry-based intellience centred around mathmatics, science, etc.) is that women can't rely on their physical size for survival. They instead put energy into reading their environment, understanding it, and learning how to survive in it. That also includes cleverly manipulating the systems in place, and figuring out what buttons to push to make things happen. Women have logically seen that men are pretty handy to have around! Those pickle jars don't open themselves, y'know. There IS something to be said for having someone around who has superior physical strength and a talent for those things which we find more challenging on the whole than they do. Biologically speaking, it's in a woman's best interest to "shop around". For men it's just recreational; they have nothing at stake. For women, however, - and still biologically speaking - the end goal is a healthy, robust child. And since women are capable of having more than one baby in their lifetime, it makes good sense that she would continue to shop around for other potential "donors". In that light, emotion has nothing to do with it, and that in itself doesn't make it wrong.

Now I know that not many people buy that theory, preferring to trust in the good old good old. And I absolutely agree there are many other factors involved. There is something to be said for love and respect and loyalty. However, I just feel that there is no denying our biology. We were designed to be sexual beings, and that attraction to others does not fade naturally with a wedding ring. It is something that for MOST (but probably not all) people must be beaten into submission. How else do you explain all the rampant affairs that happen? Is it just that people are bad and immoral? Or is it that they are maybe denying their nature?

I sure hope that didn't sound like I'm condoning affairs, because I'm not. There is nothing more hurtful or destructive in a relationship than infidelity. It's just about the cruelest thing you can do to your partner. There IS no excuse for it. None. It just baffles me that people don't do the obvious and recognize those attractions to other people and work together to figure out what to do about it in an adult fashion. What do you do about it? I don't know, it depends on what's right for the couple. But sticking your head in the sand and hoping it goes away apparently doesn't work very well.

presented that you anticipate monogamy is a few thing it truly is genetic. yet i imagine monogamy is extra of environmental - anybody is monogamous, because it truly is what human beings, the society, tells them is ideal. organic decision is evolutionary biology, yet i'd wager this can extra likely count number into cultural evolution, no? i'd be incorrect, i'm in reality an novice who in no way famous time to get into interpreting it deeper.

Absolutely not. You've seen Old School. Frank can't help wondering about panties on other women.

Honestly, I don't care if I'm with Carmen Electra, given the option to have sex with other women would be very tempting. Sex with the same person all the time gets old. Sure its great to have sex with someone you love and all, but truly, a night of semi drunken sex where you break a bed is worth more than 50 nights of same old same old.

We are only monogamous because that is what religion, tradition, and our parents tell us is correct.

I don't think so. I think it's a social norm imposed by religious and societal expectations. Sometimes we abide by them, sometimes we don't. But i think it's in the biology and against the grain to stay with one partner for life. The attraction fades quickly and only societies support keeps the bond alive. That and hard work and love.

Of course it is, you just have to find your soul mate.
It is with that person, and only that person will you find satisfaction and contentment.
