I have a 2 year old dachshund and I need to house train her. I should have started doing this last year but she was so tiny that I was afraid that if I left her outside after she was houstrained
that a large bird might carry her off so I left her
inside. I am teaching her to use puppy pads.
This has been partially successful. However, she
does not poop on these pads; she picks the floor when she has to poop. This is not acceptable. I need to know how to teach her not to use the pads, but to ask to go outside. How do I go about doing this? I would appreciate suggestions that are helpful instead of those that are funny. Thanks.

Start over! Walk your dog on a leash as much as possible. I walked my puppy every 2 hours. Every time she pees or poops outside, act like she just gave you a huge gift! Give her TREMENDOUS praise and a treat. If she has an accident in the house, DO NOT yell at her. Just say NO, and take her right outside and say "Go Potty". The key is lots of praise and treats, and keep an eye on her, you need to learn her signs that she needs to go. She will learn that going outside is fun! Be consistent!!!! She'll get it eventually. And yes, take the wee wee pads away.

His gonads don't affect his capability to be trained. I take advantage of this process on every dog that strikes in with me. Time table-Confine-Supervise time table- the feeding and potty occasions. An adult is fed twice a day. A dog is fed four times a day as much as 10 or 12 weeks, then thrice a day by means of adolescence. They ought to potty first thing within the morning, last factor at night time, inside a couple of minutes of every meal, and every few hours in between. The “in between” hours are calculated by using their age in months: 1 month = 1 hour, up to 6 months/hours. So, a 3 month historical dog should be taken to potty each three hours in between the other scheduled instances. When the canine/dog is taken to potty, wait with him as he ‘does his trade’ and then reward like crazy. The neighbors must be equipped to hear you. Confine- the dog or canine at any time when it's not being watched. Confinement can also be in a crate (exceptionally at night), an activity pen, or behind a little one gate in an awfully small and dog-proofed room. Supervise- the puppy or canine at any time when it's unfastened within the house. This means having eyes on it, now not on the tv. Play with the puppy, do a 5 minute coaching session, groom it, or simply let it lie at your toes with a risk-free chew, however have it inside sight constantly. If it squats then give a loud “NO” or “ACK” as you scoop and run to the suitable potty spot. Do not let the canine return to the accident spot unless it has been entirely cleaned after which wiped with vinegar or a business enzyme product to remove all urine odor.

You basically need to "start over" and treat her like a puppy.

First, pull up the pads, that's a nasty solution to house breaking!

Limit her food and water intake (Don't starve or dehydrate her, but don't leave food or water down - Let her get her fill, the put it out of her reach).

Take her outside 20-30 minutes after she eats or drinks. Take her out first thing in the morning and before bed at night. Stay outside till she goes and PRAISE her when she goes.

If she has an accident, show it to her, tell her no, then bring her outside.

She'll get the hang of it, just have patience!

First of all, she isn't going to ask to go out.....if she's been allowed to do her business in the house for almost 2 yrs.... she's gonna go wherever.

You are going to have to confine her possibly to a crate and start from scratch. Take her out as soon as she wakes up, within 20 minutes after she eats, after she's been running around and playing... You will have to watch for the signs, constant sniffing and circling (looking for a place to go).

If you take her out and she doesn't tend to business, bring her in and crate her, and try again in about 30 min. Taking care of business outside earns her in the house freedom. They seem to pick up on that quickly.

Good luck, it's not easy to start from scratch with an older dog, but not impossible either. Just stick to it.

There's no excuse for a 2 year old dog not to be house broken. And it's not the Dogs fault.Next time She poops in the house,And you have to catch her in the act,say NO ! BAD DOG ! in a LOUD voice .Hold her nose to ,Don't rub her nose in it,take the poop & the dog out side. Dogs like to poop in the same area.Steam cleaning the carpet will get rid of the smell at her favorite spot.

It may be too late to house train, but you must keep the animal corner or kept in the same spot until they go out side, right now the animal has gotten here scent on your floor, if its tile i would suggest you change the portion of the tile or rug. the only time i would let her got from that area is when you want to walk and you should try to routine of walking right after yoyu animal eats,,,wait about 15 min and see what happens

By slowly moving the puppy pad towards the door that you want it to go outside might help you in this case. Try to monitor or regulate when your dog uses the bathroom. Even though you really can't force them to hold their bladder or bowels, you can influence it by feeding at certain times of the day and monitering your pooch when it gets the "potty-waddle". After your dog wakes up is another good time to do their thing.

You may also want to use a small phrase to encourage your dog to go outside to use the bathroom. I personally you "Outside, go potty!" and my dogs really respond to that.

When they are outside, and they do go to the bathroom, always give them lots of praise, do not focus too much on where it is at this point in your lawn, but the fact that it is outside of your house.

Good Luck!!

Easier to do when she's a puppy but you can still fix the problem. If you are using the puppy pads... STOP. They are teaching/confirming that it is OK to pee/poop inside the house. You can't "migrate" to this. Dogs don't understand "sometimes it's ok to go inside the house" concepts.
As suggested... limit her food/water to specific times and then teaching her to go outside will be easier. Be consistent with your timing of food and the trips outside and she'll catch on faster. Use commands too. If she starts sniffing/looking for the pads bring her to the door. Say "potty" (or anything referring to the act) and repeat a few times before opening the door and letting her out. If you want her to "walk" and potty... teach her to touch the leash. Once outside/walking repeat the command word a few times until she does the job. Then reward and say "Good potty" and bring her back in. Also... you may want to take one of the soiled puppy pads outside with her. Associating the pads with the outside could help too.
It sounds crazy but I know people who've trained their dogs "pee" or "poop" on command... so if you want to be that specific with your commands you can be. The key is consistency. Use the same commands, timing and rewards and your pup will no longer need the pads in the house. Be patient though

His gonads do not impression his skill to learn. i exploit this methodology on each and every canine that strikes in with me. schedule-Confine-Supervise schedule- the feeding and potty situations. An grownup is fed two times an afternoon. A domestic dog is fed 4 situations an afternoon as much as ten or 12 weeks, then three times an afternoon via infants. they might desire to potty first element interior the morning, final element at nighttime, interior a couple of minutes of each and every meal, and each few hours in between. The “in between” hours are calculated by their age in months: a million month = a million hour, as much as six months/hours. So, a three month previous domestic dog might desire to be taken to potty each and every 3 hours in between the different scheduled situations. while the canine/domestic dog is taken to potty, wait with him as he ‘does his organization’ and then compliment like loopy. The buddies might desire to be waiting to pay attention you. Confine- the domestic dog or canine each and each time that's not being watched. Confinement might properly be in a crate (especially at nighttime), an workout pen, or at the back of a toddler gate in an fairly small and domestic dog-proofed room. Supervise- the domestic dog or canine each and each time that's loose interior the homestead. this implies having eyes on it, not on the television. Play with the domestic dog, do a 5 minute preparation consultation, groom it, or purely enable it lie at your ft with a secure chew, yet have it close by in any respect situations. If it squats then supply a noisy “NO” or “ACK” as you scoop and run to the suited potty spot. do not enable the canine return to the twist of destiny spot till that's been thoroughly wiped sparkling and then wiped with vinegar or a commercial enzyme product to get rid of all urine scent.

Well it is late you should have started earlier but they also have a teritorial issue. Like if say she poops in one spot say on a rug take it outside to try to teach him or her that, thats were they have to go when they have to go potty or after they make an oopsy than litly spank them say no and put them outside say NO you go potty outside after a little while their get tired of getting spanked and their atomatically try to warn you so you will let them out.
