we are not going to be anything but friends...DO MOST MEN GET IT WHEN YOU SAY...I JUST LIKE YOU AS A FRIEND?...i would and leave him alone...(it is just a polite way of saying..."No thanks, i am not interested")???

I'm sure that the person would take the hint by your body language or the general way that you are around them, i used to have a guy fancy the pants off of me but i just didn't see him in that way at all, in the end, he just got too bad, kept coming onto me so i told him that i only saw him as a friend, yeah he was pretty bummed about it but its just the way i feel and nothing will change it.
If he doesn't get it...tell him, the best way of sorting out a problem is to talk to that person, good luck!

The previous person who said you should pay half the tab is correct. I think that is the polite gesture in this instance. Many men will probably refuse to take it, but some may not.

If the man is a secure/mature man, he will understand. Not every person is meant for the other. It is a part of life. Better to know from the start, rather than find out later when there are more feelings and time invested. It is all in how it is said and handled. Good for you for wanting to set it straight from the start.

On a final note, there have been times when I thought that a man would only ever be my friends. There were not the initial "sparks" I normally felt when someone would be more than just a friend. Yet, I did get humbled in a few of those experiences as the man did end up becoming more than just a friend and it was wonderful. It is a great way to start a romance anyway-as friends first.

Good luck!

Yeah guys get it when you say "you're such a great friend". You did the right thing. If he persists just say you started talking to your ex again. That usually nails the coffin pretty good. Another good one is I'm not looking for a serious relationship right now. Or you're not my type.

what's wrong with people having friends of the opposite sex? NOTHING, if he wants more then let him know your are not interested in anything but a friendship, sometimes being direct can solve most problems

The lad would probably be on the watch out and nod knowingly when you get to break up with your next boyfriend, and the one after. And think "Thank God". No offense meant, though.

eh that usualy takes a while for it to sink in for most guys. the point of going out on a date us typically to engage in more than just friendship. try not going on dates with friends... call them just hanging out or whatever. it keeps things simple

he GETS IT butt at the same time he doesnt want to. some guys dont care and are ok with it as long as u agree to pay half the tab. then you have other guys that are sensitive so...let 'em know butt just know they'll get over it eventually. some days, some weeks, some months; depending on how much they were feeling you on yall's "date".

You are right. I think that most guys are familiar with the meaning of this phrase, anyway.
