the higher your swing speed, the stiffer graphite shaft you need. graphite shafts will give you more distance than steel. if you hit the ball high, then i recommend getting a shaft that has a stiffer tip. this will also increase distance and lower the trajectory. i highly recommend graffaloy. i have used them for several years on several clubs.

That's a tough question. Generally, the shaft (as others have said) should reflect your swing speed, but there is a lot more than saying a fast swing needs a stiff shaft (now there's a double entendre!) for example, if the shaft has a low kick point, it will in general, hit the ball high, whilst a high kick point will give you the opposite. The shaft is the most important element, as the heads ( excluding R7's and weight distribution factors)are in the main, not dissimilar. It's the old adage, see a good teaching Pro and see what suits you.

The shaft creates speed the clubface is the only thing that effects the ball. It depends on your swing speed if you have a high swing speed a lighter stiffer shaft will basically mimic steel except for its weight and length. Graphite shafts are usually longer although you could cut them down to standard Length. For a fast swinger the stiff shaft prevents to much shaft whip and eliminates the hooking or ballooned shots. Regular flex graphite will also be lighter for slow swingers the additional whip will compensate for their swing speed allowing the golfer to hit it longer. So regular shafts increase distance because of extra whip and stiff shafts get you better distance because of their lightweight and Length.

not a lot really -it is all about the flex -the faster you swing the stiffer the shaft.
generally if you slice and you swing fast you need a firmer shaft. That is why kids are mega whippy - to generate club speed.
