My male cat is 19 and has lived in my house his whole life. My new cat is an 8 y/o female. I adopted her while I was living on my own but I moved back in with my parents 5 months ago. Both cats are fixed. I have been keeping the cats seperate for 5 months because when I first introduced them they displayed very agressive behavior and it seemed like the male was going to hurt the female. I had to stop the male from approaching her because it looked like he was going to attack. She fell on her back with her legs up in the air. Sometimes they even fight through the french doors that sepearte them. I am tired of moving cats from room to room. Will my cats hurt each other if I let them be in the same room together?

This will continue as long as you allow it and seperate the 2. Obviously your old cat has had you all to himself. There will be jealousy. Need seperate food bowls and litter pans. Don't expect to share!

You have to take the time to work with both in a quiet calm manner. Maybe take both and sit and pet/love on. Keep at it.
The quicker you let them work things out the better. Try letting them be but near by to intervene--only if need. Let them hiss and carry on and set their boundaries within the house. They will. Verbally warn them if too intense to seperate them and let them cool off.

The female already knows to show submission, rolling over on back. Both are fixed so that eliminates that issue. Just may take time for the kids to play nice or at least tolerate each other. I would encourage giving them the run of the house so they can set the boundaries.

If you are uptight they will sense that and it will make them uptight.Take it calm and easy.

If they have issues already then yes. I would not trust them alone together. Not all cats are real social, even with their littermates if they have been separated for some time. When introducing two cats it is best to try and make pleasant associations with the presence of the other cat. This can be play, food treats or even grooming. The goal is to associate good things with the other cat. When you are unable to work with them, it might help to keep them separated. Over time they should become used to one another and the household will become more harmonious.

Yes...they might. I would allow for some supervised time together. Have a spray bottle ready and squirt whoever is getting aggressive. We did this with our male cat when we introduced him to our two females. I NEVER thought they would get along. Now, our one little girl thinks that he is her boyfriend and the other who was super aggressive will allow him to sleep next to her. Your older cat is gonna have trouble with this, as he is older and set in his ways, so to speak, but there is no reason why they can't co-habitate......without trying to maim the other. Good luck. It has taken nearly 8 months for there to be continued peace in our house. The squirt bottle really worked wonders but you have to be consistant.

Cats will get used to each other . I had 13 stray cats come to my barn. while some will hiss and spit all never real did any damage to them. Mankind seem to be the only one I know that real harms cats. You will have to get used to the horse play. But with patience they will get used to each other in time. I hope this help you.

No they won't hurt each other. But you're not helping, by keeping them separated. They need to meet and get to know one another. My male cat loves the new female kitten. They play all the time. It's more of a matter on when they get along and how. You need to leave them be and let them get to know each other. Eventually they will play without trying to claw at each other.

Well, there is a chance that they will, but leaving them alone is the best way for them to get used to eachother. You wouldn't have liked it if your mom to come into your elementary school to make sure that you weren't fighting with other kids or getting hurt, would you? I know it sounds dumb, but it's true. Give them time.
We just got a little kitty. Our 3 other cats weren't thrilled at first, but one by one they made peace with the little guy and the scrapping stopped. We find them all sleeping together every other day or so.

You may come home one day and find one of them dead.

I suggest that you take your cats with you wherever you go. It doesn't matter that others may have cat allergies - it is all about you and your cats.
