Although commercial pet food often contains cornmeal, it's not the primary ingredient... it's filler. Cats eat a diet of MEAT. Your cat will not receive the nutrition it needs from corn flakes.

Look around the fridge, freezer, and cupboards for meat.
Canned or fresh chicken, salmon, tuna, fresh/frozen hamburger, even hotdogs or fish sticks are okay. Even a can of chunky beef stew would be better than corn flakes. Deli meats or processed meats might make your cat thirsty so provide lots of fresh water. And don't make a habit of this. On occasion when you are in a desperate situation it's okay.

No, I don't recommend Science Diet to anyone. I worked as a Certified Veterinary Technician for 13 years. My own cat has food allergies to chicken. I have had her on SD prescription foods and also Royal Canin feline foods. Both these foods were stale upon opening the bags. These are extremely expensive foods and I was throwing them out. I also beg to differ with the people that say that wet food is the only thing to feed a cat. I had my cat on Merrick's, Natural Balance and a couple of others. I am very limited to what I can feed her. Try finding any food without some sort of chicken (meal, liver, protein, fat) is an exercise in futility. I had her on canned foods only for at least 3 years. I had to continually give her laxatives because she became so constipated because she didn't drink water when she was on canned food. I added water to the food and it didn't help. She lost weight and she was never a large cat to begin with. But when I started her back on dry food, it was then I realized that she was actually starving. She was a rack of bones. When she started eating the dry food, she gained weight and her constipation went away because she started drinking water again. So rather than generalizing all cats, you need to take each individual cat's nutritional needs into consideration. Some cats, like mine; will not do well on a canned diet. My cat is now 15 and doing well. She is healthier than she ever was on a strictly canned diet.

That's not the question to ask, as YOU can do anything YOU want!

Maybe the question is or questions are:

How can I remember to not run out of cat food? :-) or
Why am I so lazy as to not go back out to get my cat some food? or
Will feeding my cat corn flakes send me to hell in that after life? :-0 or
Does anyone care if my cat eats cornflakes or not?

Anyhow you decide then the cat will or won't love, loath or starve.

Go buy some cat food to feed / feel it, we are smart ***** here! Do what feels OK, as the cat has the ultimate choice about consuming cornflakes! lol
Cheers...

Not cornflakes! If you have any chicken that you can cook up real quick. Don't add any seasoning. If you have a George Foreman grill it would work the best. If you have turkey, same thing. Lunchmeat tends to be bad for cats because of the additives, but I would strongly suggest going to the STORE! Good Luck to you!

The majority of commercial cat foods are bulked up with corn and rice, so giving your cats corn flakes aren't likely to harm them. Cats are, however, carnivores. So they'll probably prefer any meat you have lying around to those cornflakes...

boil some chicken - no seasonings or anything. if you HAVE to give them 'human' food make sure it's something natural without preservatives.

maybe a neighbor would lend you enough cat food until you can get some?

I know my babbies and they too, eat dry food . but on the rare times that I've forgot to get food for them. I would roast them a peice of chicken,or beef. let it cool and feed that to them. Most cats also love fish too. raw or caned. They might even look at as a treat for them . NO ,YOUR ARE NOT A HORRIBLE PERSON !for forgetting , Don't beat yourself over this. God Bless.

When my cat runs out of food, i feed him carrots, and he likes them, but you shouldn't feed yours cornflakes, they have sugar, and i don't think cats can eat sugar.
