I don't get why a woman with curves in America is considered fat. An example is a woman who is 5'5" weighs about 130-145 pounds and wears a size 7 or size 9 in jeans. How on earth could this be considered fat?

How can anyone think that a woman is attractive when you see bones and sunken cheeks? She looks like an emmaciated 12 year old boy.

Someone please explain this too me.

Since I got 15 responses in less than 12 minutes and almost everyone agreed that I have a point. Next question is what are we going to do about it?

I agree! What needs to be done is change the size standard of models and actresses, etc. Because they are 5'9 and 100 lbs or whatever, size 0, us regular women figure we should look like that too. Also, remember that model from Brazil that died of Anorexia recently? That's because she was probably told she was "fat"when she was already underweight. The standard must change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No normal woman looks like a twig, and in ads they should have a normal sized woman.

It's all because of men and the media. The trends in our society has changed from being pretty with curves, and now, being pretty - you have to be like a size 0. Vey thin.
nowadays, Most men don't like women to have any "fat" (curves) and would prefer plastic boobs and a stick figure. The media zooms on any celebrity who has gained some weight, and make it a headline for all of America to read. That causes girls to think being healthy and having some curves, is bad.

Amen darlin' :) I agree.

I think that people want to be accepted and that they will do anything to not "stick out" as weird for fear of being rejected. I think that the media has a lot to do with this, because people tend to look towards Hollywood as their standard of what is "good" or "not good." When people buy into these media standards, they influence others by either cheering them on or putting them down. People develop unrealistic (and often deadly) ideas of what "beauty" is. It is interesting to note that different countries see beauty differently. Each country varies on their standard of "beauty."

I think that it is sad that people don't realize what wonderful creations they are, no matter if they are a size 2 or a size 32. A person's worth is not measured by their waist size. A person is lovely because they are who they are. A confident and loving heart will make any size beautiful. :)

I guess people who like 12 year old boys. I mean there is a difference between being skinny and just plain nasty unhealthy anorexic looking. Some of their thighs(models) don't touch and it looks like they knees are all knobby and gross. I saw one model on TV who was extremely skinny, because her metabolism was crazy high, but you could honestly tell that she was healthy and hadn't been throwing up her food. They say that they don't but it's so easy to spot the ones that do as opposed to the rarity of one who actually earned the skinny by excercize and good eating habits. I don't wear a seven or nine but I would never consider a seven or nine to be fat. Some peoples bodies are just built different. My best friend wore sevens and nines she was also about 5'4" and 130lbs.No one ever thought she was fat.All the guys we knew thought she was hot.

Well, the fashion industry is a huge factor behind it. They are of the mindset that their fashion looks best on women who don't project in any direction, claiming it gives the clothing "smooth lines."
However, only a small fraction of the population fits their mold.
In the same way, many women are B cup or smaller, but are of the impression that a C cup is ideal, when only part of women are of that size.
Hollywood's been jumping on the thin woman bandwagon since there is such a strong tie between them and the fashion world--i.e. this actress wears this designer, yay, publicity!
Yet the designers are usually less willing to adjust their "art' to fit the celebs, so the celebs try to fit the art--i.e. starve themselves to size 0.

From what i understand it has something to do with women wanting to be more like the perfect models on tv and in magazines. After a while they try to look so much like them that they just cant stop and so they do whatever they can to attempt to make themselves look prettier... even if that means losing weight to an unhealthy level. Personally i would rather see a normal overweight girl than a little whisp of flesh and bone. Either you cant look like supermodels so you starve yourself to death or you get depressed and eat yourself into obesity. Another thing i cant stand is when girls who are overweight try to squeeze into teeny little clothes and they end up hanging out all over the place.

the fashion industry can be blammed for that, everyone wants to look like a model and for the time a lot of models are dangerously thin. and with the media focusing on young models, actresses like Ashley Kate..geez all the young females want to be just like her because they think she has a glamorous life. It's all teaching the young people its not OK to be normal. I'm so glad some modeling agencies are turning models away because they are to thin

prolly while media ceases to exist and human beings do not enable themselves to be ruled by standard concept. won't be in a position to blame people who're smitten by extremely thinness in spite of the undeniable fact that. society, media, and dictators of "norm" impose twisted reasoning and beat down human beings lots with their fascist standards of attractiveness that human beings purely enable them to. so the insanity will end and private freedom will initiate while human beings choose to awaken.

It's an image that is perperuated by the media, such as women's magazines. As a man, I much prefer curves to skin and bones.

That's what the "men" prefer, 12 year old boy look alikes. Makes you wonder huh? Why are men so obsessed with immature looking bodies, sexually dimorphic bodies. Women would not suffer and strive to destroy their natural form if this was not so.
