It happens probably about once a week or so. I don't know what to do. he seems fine before and after he does it. He's been eating the same food for as long as I've had him. What should I do?

He might just be eating too quick - Have you discussed the problem with your vet? If not, that's the first step....

I've read the answers above... and yes it will happen. Not only because he eats to fast but because his stomach just may be upset. Dogs naturally will eat grass to cause them to vomit. Make sure all he's eating is his food. If it continues consider switching food to something that has oatmeal in it (try Nutro). It's easier on the stomach. Feed his meals in small incriments. If he normally gets 3 cups a day split that up so he gets fed twice day.

Also, my English Setter (Willow) vomits when she's upset, stressed etc and when she needs to go potty. She'll hold it and never go in the house but she sure will vomit everywhere. So it could be another reaction towards something else.

Just keep an eye out and I would mention it to the vet.

Chihuahua's are very active dogs. Being this way for 2 weeks is not normal. There can be a number of things causing this. He really needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. The vet can check him out, run the proper tests, determine where the problem is coming from and treat it. Poor little guy! I hope he's feeling better soon, and that it's nothing serious. Good Luck!

Sounds like he gets an upset stomach at times, my dog does that also. I asked the vet, he said that some dogs just have a more sensitive digestive system, thus they get nausea and blow chips sometimes. My dog tends to go to this one plant in my yard and rips the grassy leaves off of it when she is feeling nauseous. She also will pick out this certain type of grass in my yard(large thick blades)and eats those also when feeling nausea. I do know that if your dog just got done eating that you shouldn't start playing rough, and rolling around with him, their stomachs need to digest some food first, with my dog(St Bernard)you must'nt let them play too much after eating because a large breed dog's stomach can flip and they will get deathly ill in no time at all. Your dog is a deep chested animal so I would be careful about his activity after eating.

How old is he, does his weight seem normal? I have a dog who used to vomit but it was because he used to chew on his toys and instead of just tearing them up he would actually eat it. He was being fed fine but he just wasnt too bright. Take the dog to the vet for a professional opinion, it would be the best for the dog. Good luck

It may be because he needs to have something in his stomach for the bile to work on. I have a dog that would throw up bile every morning. I spoke to a vet who suggested feeding him dry food at night before bedtime, to give the bile something to work on. He is fine now, eats a little bit every night, and no problems in the morning.
You didn't explain the situation enough. Is it am. or pm? is he eating grass? Is he eating fast? Is the vomit just bile or is there solids in it?
If it is just bile and morning, try my suggestion.

If it looks like food...then he's NOT vomiting...it is regurgitating. This is usually not a sign of illness when it happens only occasionally like this. It is usually a common sense reason like overfilling the stomach, too active after eating, not chewing the food well, or something is wrong with the food (moldy, rancid, etc). If he is sick... he won't eat.

I've got a boston terrier who does the same thing. Every once in a while for no reason he will spit up his food. I don't know if it's acid reflux or what it is. I always hope he's does it on the kitchen floor and not on the carpet. I'll keep watching to see if you get an answers.

My dog does this on occasion too. Usually he is just eating grass or something he shouldn't have. We try and keep an eye on him as much as possible but he is a dog. Talk to your vet, that is your best bet on getting a solid answer.

My old english bull dog did that because he ate too fast. What I did was spread his food over the floor (clean floor) to get him used to eating slower. Then I got him a stand for his food that was at his head height. He stopped.

My pittbull/boxer puppy does that... my doc says it is nothing to be worried about as long as it is once and it is not a constent vomiting all day.... He maybe had food he has not passed from the day before and he is regurgitating it up since it is not passable.
