I'm thinking about various options for the big day and one is getting the heck out of town and celebrating somewhere on the beach. Looking for suggestions from people have had or been to destination weddings - locations, cost, best plan, who pays, etc, etc. Thanks in advance!

With destination weddings, your best bet would be to pick a chain resort such as Sandals, Beaches, or Wyndham Resorts. They have a lot of experience and your wedding will be handled with the upmost quality. When choosing an island, consider costs, amenities and flight time. Your guests are not going to want to spend a whole day traveling to and from the resort. The bride and groom are responsible for paying for flights and hotel for those in the wedding party. Guests typically pay for themselves. Good Luck!

My husband and I got married in St Thomas. The Virgin Islands are beautiful. Our family was scattered and we decided to go get married ourselves. My parents paid, but I never expected them too. There are so many places you can get married and that's going to depend on how many people will be attending and your budget.

In the old days the bride's parents paid for the wedding and the groom or his family paid for the honeymoon. However, a lot more people are waiting to get married and end up paying it for themselves. It just seems strange to have parents paying for their 28+ year old children's wedding. By then you should be established and able to do this yourself. What you choose will depend on your family, his family, you, your fiance and most importantly your budget.

With that said....Florida, Hawaii, and the Caribbean are all great places. Most resorts will help with the ceremony. Cruises are fun as well. I wish you two the best of luck and I'm sure you'll have a great wedding wherever you choose to have it.

Hello, I live in sunny Florida and am getting married. I could not find a beach wedding service that I liked the decorations and the COST...so I started a destination wedding service. It has beautiful decorations and at a great value. If we could only marry ourselves. Feel free to check it out www.theweddingkiss.com

DO NOT GO TO SANDALS BAHAMIAN~We just got married in November there and even though they do 6 weddings a day, they messed mine up in so many ways. The minister didn't even stop to allow us to exchange our own vows, they played the wrong music, never ordered my fathers boutiniere.....it's a good thing my husband and I were planning something simple anyhow or this really might have destroyed us. The nice part is, we got married with our feet in the sand and our pictures came out great!

Im doing it in Jamaica this May. Not only do most of the resorts do it for free, but you get a free nights stay as well. You actually save money on your honemoon that way. Im at Hedonism III May 25th, but several other clubs do it too. Hedo might be a lil wild for ya.

For me hawaii or florida honeymoon is a nice place to go. If you think of expenses its really worth it and most of the time the Groom prepares for this.
