Too many sell them too young!! Pups need the time with the mom to learn and be nurtured by the mom. Most start after 5-6 wks. Pups normally get first shots and deworm and checkup at that age. The breeders sell them quick to save money on more shots, etc.

This pup should have had at least 2 sets of puppy shots and 2 deworming by 11 weeks. You need proof that is has been to the vet and all that done! Many breeders out for the fast buck buy shots/worm meds over the counter and these are not the same quality as done at vet. Plus a vet looks for other problems.

So ask questions. What condition is the mom in? How good or bad is environment for the dogs? If you purchase pup and vet finds a problem is the breeder to pay for??

There are good and bad and the worst of breeders out there. Many exploit their dogs for a quick buck!! Ask age of mom and how many litters has had. An overbred female can have litters with problems and sickly.

11 weeks is actually a good age. The puppies should have at least 2 of their puppy shots by now, and they're old enough to be showing what their true personalities are like.

Generally pups cannot be sold until they are 8 weeks old. some unscrupulous breeders try to shove 6-week-old puppies off on people because they don't want to pay for the vaccinations and don't want to have to clean up after the pups, but that's illegal in most states in the US now.

Seems like most breeders sell their pups starting from 7-8 weeks. What's really important at this point is to find out if this is the last of the litter and WHY. Make sure you spend time with the dog in his/her enviroment to see how they interact with other dogs and people. It's the breeders job to socialize the puppy with family & different situations -- never buy from someone who raises their puppies in a barn type environment! They need to be in the house with people, even better if there are kids too!

They are usually sold between 6-8 weeks old. If this is a purebred, be sure the breeder properly papered your pet and gave you the paperwork.

Some are sold after 8 weeks. It's best to wait 10 - 12 weeks. Their mother still has many important things to teach them.

It is really traumatic for puppies to be taken away from their mothers. You have to be ready to stand long nights of howling and crying for sometime. Some people do not mind this, and do not give too much importance to the creature's suffering.
The right time to take them with you is when they are already eating their first meals, that way you will not have to sleep with them through the night to get some sleep.

You can "promise" them at any age, but most breeders will not allow them to go to a new home until they are close to three months of age.
Eleven weeks is fine.....please be sure you have done your homework on the breeder; insure they are reputable.
