Try OpenOffice.

Its got all the same functionality of of MS OFFICE, and its free.

WordPerfect is still out there. And Microsoft makes an alternative for its Microsoft Works office suite.

Word is the standard, though, and not many other computer users will be able to read a document made in another program unless it is specially modified for MS Word.

moost word processing systems are similar to microsoft word. The one I think is most like it is wordperfect. It's user friendly and isn't that different to Word. Maybe even better!

OpenOffice, Basically the whole Microsoft suite for free, but if you like their services drop them $20/£10 or something to show your appreciation.

OpenOffice 2.0 is the best I've used, but there is also AbiWord.
