Because certain ones are lobbyists. Pat Robertson is one of the biggest ones out there. Haggard was one that used to talk directly to Bush concerning the whole "Faith Based Agenda" Bush has going right now. Well, did... it looks like it's dying now because his ratings are bottoming out. A few churches were in some trouble during the last election for doing things that are considered "lobbying". I agree with her, but only to the point that they do that to the churches and pastors who are actually doing the lobbying.

Well they could be classified that way, and they would still give money to their causes, so I don't see what difference it would make.

There would be serious constitutional issues involved anyway.

Also, to those who think churches should be "taxable," be careful what you ask for. If churches could be taxed, then they would have a greater say in what goes on in government and would have even more influence on legislators. Is that what you really want?

I bet it is because most churches and pastors don't promote a strong left agenda. That whole piece of legislation is really shady. Sounds like congress wants even less accountability to the people than they have now.

This is because of one "organization" in particular: the relgious right. They funnel mass amounts of money to supporting those candidates who have christian backgrounds and are out to promote a christian agenda (such as those who passed a bill thru the house, last summer, stripping federal judges of the ability to try cases involving "under god" in the pledge).

Now, if we could only get her to classify churches as taxable businesses...

Because some of them funnel mass amounts of money to candidates who support their views and want to see religoius doctrine passed into law.

Someone who funnels money to politicians so that their views will be heard and supported is a lobbyist.
