Sometimes during the chemical breakdown, some gas is evolved mainly co2. This could be due to combination of acids, alkalis or even fermentation taken place within stomach. The gas tries to escape either orally or through colon.

I know it is from something I ate. A few nights ago, I had some Mexican food and for more than three days I have had some horrible farts. What an awful pong!

It is a build up of gasses in the stomache, if you eat too fast, if you at too much spicy food. It needs to have a release so it comes from the bowel. Too much spicy food can also cause stomache ulcers and with this, one will exhale a lot of gasses and have pain in the stomache. Way to cut this down? eat salads, fresh fruit, eat slower, drink plenty
