I'm writting a speech about how women shouldn't be ordianed. The only example of "ordination" would be Deborah. How would you explain it if someone brought that up. (remember you are not for the ordination of women.)

According to Judges 4:4, she was a prophetess, who judged the people of Israel. As there was no central government at that time, each tribe or local community would shoose the people to ask as their "leaders". Exactly how that was done is not recorded in scripture, and may well have varied from community to community.

When God called Deborah to lead the army against Sisera, she intitally refused because she felt that she would not be accepted by all the people who would be involved. Apparently she was only a judge over part of the people. So God gave her a companion in Barak, who was accepted by the rest of the armies. Together they lead the battle.

But because God wanted to be sure that people would understand that He can (and does) call women to be prophetess and judges, same as men, God declared that the finally victory over Sisera would belong to a woman. And it did.

She was a judge. And, yes, I suppose she was ordained by God. But before there were kings, there were only judges in Israel. She was a very good one... one of the few talked about. The leader of the army wouldn't even go into battle without her. I think you should take that into consideration when writing your speech. Are you against women being ordained as.. what? Pastors? Priests? Anything? I don't think women should be lead pastors of a church, but I don't disagree with them being put in charge of ministries all together. Paul even praises some women in the New Testament about their ministry. Deborah stepped up when no one else would. She was strong and true... however, I would agree that she is the only example of that particular situation.

Deborah was a Judge of Israel and went into battle with Israel. It will be difficult explaining this woman. She was a judge over men.
