The rocker arms for a 390 are on a shaft. They are not adjustable on the hydraulic lifter engines.The shaft stands are torqued to 25-30 foot-pounds.

Headgasket thickness plus block decking plus head milling plus valve grinding plus valve stem height plus rocker wear all factor into tourqued down rocker specs. Hydraulic lifters along with oil pressure heavilly influence valve action at multiple R.P.M.'s . If you've got all your ducks in a row this engine will successfully fire but-beware of mid-to-high rpms' until you can sense valve train reaction. This engine was the question that birthed answers for future prosperity-and leeway in the quest for modification.
