If you were sitting down to dinner with an old friend at a fairly nice place to eat and noticed the table behind you being generally rude and obnoxious, how would you react? Would you say anything? Would you react?

I would ask to speak to the management and have them handle it and/or ask for another table. Hopefully that would take care of the issue. I do not think I would personally say something to the other people, just because that may cause more of a scene.

If we had just sat down and hadn't ordered yet, I'd go get the hostess and ask to be moved to a diffrent table. If we were half way through our meal and the obnoxious people came in, I'd probably just ignore them. If it was ridiculously bad and the restaurant staff didn't seem to notice it, I might quietly take our waitress aside and tell her I think maybe the manager needs to be notified, but I definitely wouldn't turn around and tell the people at the table behind me anything. Generally people who behave that way are doing it for a reason--to get attention. Why give them what they want?

You know the bad thing about notifying the waiter or management sometimes is that they don't want to "make waves" with the other folks (at least in my case), so I just ask for another seating arrangement away from the overly rambunctious (usually drunk) dinner guests.

If they were using offensive language and talking about inappropriate topics I would ask them to keep it down. I have a right to not have to hear filthy conversations when I am at the dinner table. If it continued I would ask for a manager and ask him to move them or us.

I would try and ignore them if possible. Eventually
one of us will be leaving. If they were very loud and very rude usually one of the waitstaff would have spoken to them. I would either ask for another table or ask to speak to the head waiter or manager.

Ignore the rude table but maybe ask the waiter or waitress to do something about it.

If its a higher end dinner the proper thing to do is notify the waiter about the situation and it would then be taken care of.......if not get pissed you have a right to do it back to them!

Talk to management and let them deal with it. If they didn't, then I would complain again, but also say something to the offending party.

I'd talk to management. If you say something to them it may just make it worse...

I've worked in resurants for years, so I've seen it first hand.
