In Saturday's Guardian, Food Critic Jeremy Wayne says the low point of a restaurant called 11 Abington Road is "white truffle oil has been detected on the premises"..why is this a bad thing?

I think it just means that it's one of those things that has been so over-used as to become passé, a bit like sun-dried tomatoes were ten years ago.

Probably because they are using truffle oil rather than the real things and charging real truffle prices for items

Some people don't like it. I personally thinks it reeks and tastes bad myself.
Then again some people swear by it and love the stuff.

It just comes down to tastes and opinions.
