you need to answer some questions first.

1. Where do you want to live afterwards? And what country are you from?

If you are planning on living in Russia after your marriage, then you can handle all the arrangements in Russia. Just get a visa and go there. Get a Russian lawyer to handle your immigrant visa once you are married. Never let your visa or status expire while you are in Russia for any reason. Never give your documents to someone for "safekeeping". Keep them with you at all times.

But, if you are planning on living in another country, maybe it's best not to marry in Russia but in the other country. i.e. for some countries the wait for a fiance visa is much less than for a K3 (spouse of a citizen). If this is the case, hire an AILA certified immigration attorney to advise you specifically about how you should do this.

2. Is your girlfriend Russian?

You didn't say this for certain. But if she is, and you are a foreigner you will have to marry in a specific branch of ZAGS (official Russian Wedding Registrar) that is allowed to marry Russians with foreigners. Russian weddings are a hoot. Ask someone to take a lot of pictures, because you will probably be too drunk to remember much of what happened.

3. This isn't one of those meet a Russian girl on the Internet things, is it?

I don't have anything against them, but you really do need to do your homework in this situation. You should go to Russia and spend 2 months living with her to learn about her life and how she deals with day-to-day living. It would help you a lot too for understanding her perspective on life and for basic understanding.

Also, don't marry someone who is 20 years younger than you, unless you earn at least $200K a year and can afford to pay someone younger than you to hang around. Have a prenup agreement if you fall into this gray category.

Finally, Don't EVER send money to someone that you have met by the internet no matter how desperate and/or kind that they may seem. You will lose all your money in 99.95% of these situations. It costs a lot of money to have an internet connection in Russia. Anyone who can afford to be online everyday in Russia is already doing better than 90% of other Russians and is just bs'ing you about needing your money.

find a church, find venue and make sure the wedding is valid in your own country of residence. When in russia I did notice they had set good luck things to do. Like stand in front of a statue and drink champagne. So Id also look into the rituals and the like

well, to go there, you need a visitors/tourists visa.
once you've got your visa, well, plane ticket and you're there.
of course, you need a passport to travel internationally.

If you want your girlfriend to come to America, you'll need to go through the process of writing an invitation, HER applying for a visa [[which is a very long process]] and getting all the proper documentation. <-- passport, birth certificate...

Once she's here, well, that's a whole other story.

I don't think Russia has any marital laws that say that two americans / american&& russian can get married.
There werent any since i lived there.

I wish you luck =)
