No. Hypoactive thyroid or hypothyroidism means that your thyroid gland is not producing enough thyroid hormone from one of many causes. Salt will not help. First you have to see a doctor and have them examine what is the cause of you low thyroid hormone output. Most likely, you might have to be in thyroid hormone replacement.

hypo is under which means that your thyroid doesn't produce enough hormone, hyper is over, which means it produces too much. Either can be serious, but it's the hypo that needs extra due to it's lack of or inability for production, but I believe it's the iodine in the salt your thinking about, not the salt. You may want to do some research on this disease.

NO! It means your thyroid is not functioning like it should. In other words your thyroid is slow. DO NOT eat more salt! Your doctor will put you on Synthroid to help you thyroid do its job.

Gotta kick in here ... kenneddee has no idea what she is talking about. All of us out here telling you to get thyroid replacement hormone from your doctor are correct. Salt has nothing to do it, iodine has nothing to do with it, and anyone who will tell you they do sure doesn't have MD after their name.

my doctor told me to take in salt with iodine added, i have hypothyriodism and it's not the salt it's the iodine, so you don't have to use more, just salt as you normally do (and don't pay attention to what some people on here say, if they don't know, they shouldn't be answering)
