Every day, someone asks why non-Christians hate God and Jesus. I find it ridiculous to think that anyone would hate what they don't believe in.

jjpelp...my wording is taken from a question that appeared only minutes before mine.

For the record, I am not an atheist. I am merely asking questions.

I don't know, but it's annoying. I can't believe people are really that stupid to think that because someone doesn't agree with their religious doctrines that they must hate what the doctrines are based around. Makes me wonder just how they react to people in the real world, instead of coming up with this stuff online. Do they ask these types of questions of Non's face to face? I doubt it.

BTW, that last question like that was by a Non-Christian (or so she claimed). I'm not so sure I believe that though.

I don't know, but I would guess since they only see black and white, love or hate, they would assume everyone else does too. How can anyone hate what they don't believe in. I think they assume non-believers hate controlled organized religion, and in my case they would be correct. It's done more harm than anything else I can think of. Just take a look at the middle east.

I'm changing my answer for the second time.

I think you'll find that it's the christians (mainly) who believe or who say this. And as stated by one already - "if you're not with god you're against him."

There are some atheists who do not care for the christian god - for the entity itself or for its effects on its followers. There are some who are atheists for that reason, but by no means all.

It's just an assumption, an incorrect one, most likely based on contact with 2-3 atheists who just happened to have had bad experiences.

Absolutely.

Incedentally, I find it interesting that Muslims revere Jesus as a prophet, Buddhists regard him as an enlightened being similar to Buddha, and even New Agers see him as an Ascended Master. So where's the hate in all that, I wonder? As far as I can see, it's the (NOT TO GENERALIZE HERE! I'M REFERRING TO THE BIBLE THUMPERS ONLY!!!) average bible thumper who hates everybody else's standpoint and object of worship/reverence.

As for atheists, as you said - how can you hate something you don't believe in?

Honestly, I only assume that with atheists since most (close to 90%) of all atheists I"ve met have felt that way. All others, I don't assume that with. Now, I admit, I could be wrong, but my own personal experience has shown me otherwise.

Good point, I'm actually against people who get to atheism by being mad at God - people who say I lost faith in God because I see good people suffering - I think so what? Maybe God wants them to suffer - or he doesnt give a damn.

If you're dumb enough to think like that then don't call yourself an atheist because we see right through that rubbish.

Not all non-believers do. But if you spend any amoung of time on that site, you will see that there are quite a few who do - or are at least vocal enough to make it appear that way...

I agree, it is impossible to hate Santa Claus because he does not exist. It is impossible to hate the tooth fairy for the same reason. And since God and Jesus do not exist then it actually is impossible to hate. However, the religious morons, they are real and easy to hate.

I agree.
edit:
Hate takes energy---they just don't believe. What most atheists HATE are Christians who assume they SHOULD believe. BIG DIFFERENCE! Gosh!

and i am not an atheist either, but I likewise can see another viewpoint.

These questions will never be resolved.
They just keep GOING AND GOING...
Did I say ,"never"?
I suppose when we all have to BOW DOWN BEFORE CHRIST and ACKNOWLEDGE THAT HE IS LORD..., then we will know. And for many who are standing to the left, I suppose they will then, REALIZE that God and Jesus, REALLY ARE REAL.
But I suppose at that point it will be too late to come to HIM, though He keeps Comming to us, and giving us chance after chance to ACCEPT HIM. He gives us SIGN after SIGN to believe in HIM.
Daily Miracles...Like the Rising sun, the Planets staying in ORBIT without FALLING into eachother, or The Miracle of LIFE, a child born , many CHILDREN BORN daily...
Ohwell, I guess it is still difficult for many to believe in something which THEY CAN NOT ACTUALLY SEE, and even if GOD was to come down and WIPE OUT ALL THAT is BAD...I suppose people would be like,"What sort of GOD is He to wipe out all those PEOPLE, THOSE THUGS WERE MY FRIENDS"!!!
"What Kind of GOD would wipe out all those people?"...
Well, HE IS THE GOD WHO CREATED ALL THINGS GREAT AND SMALL.
If I create something, it is mine to destroy, if I see fit.
SAME WITH GOD.
AS far as your Question goes, There are many sterio-typical people.
So they just throw SEVERAL people, who think very differently, into ONE CLASS/ OR GROUP.
I do not believe it is POSSIBLE to HATE SOMETHING or SOMEONE, in whom you do not know or BELIEVE.
But a lot of people think it is, that a lot of Athiests are Athiests, because of SOMETHING BAD THAT HAPPENED TO THEM, and so therefore, they, the ATHIESTS, must BLAME/ HATE GOD.
HMMM
Does that help at all? somehow I sorta doubt it.
