I have a pair of Kenwood KFC-W3010 that has a maximum Peak wattage power of 1000, and an RMS wattage of 200. And there's a speaker that i've been hearing Krazy things about. It's by Directed and it has a maximum Peak wattage of 1200 and an RMS wattage of 600. Since it has 3x's the RMS wattage of the Kenwood's does it necessarily mean that it'll hit 3x's as hard. And would I get better results from one Directed sub verses 2 Kenwwod subs?

no it does not mean it will be 3x louder. comman misconseption. infact the box itself has more to do with how loud a speaker will be, then total power does.

The only thing that will make something hit harder is more power that is sent to it.

When you look at speakers, do not pay attention to the peak rating. Since 99.9999999% of the time you are driving constant sound to them instead of a quick bang, only RMS should be considered.

If you have an amp with an RMS power of 200 watts, theoretically, you will hear no difference unless they are different sizes. I say theoretically because speaker composition, sensitivity, and other factors will make a difference.

to answer your question, you will get more from the 2 subs as opposed to 1. However, of you drive more than 200 watts, you will end up with nothing as you will blow the Kenwoods.

One speaker can sound a lot better than 2, or it can go the other way and sound worse. It depends on the amount of power you have going to the sub, the shape and size of the sub enclosure, if the sub enclosure is ported or sealed, the interior size of the vehicle (yes, this does make a difference), the size of the sub, what the sub is made out of, etc. The are many variables. What i would recommend, is to go to a store that sells car audio and talk with them. Make sure the guy/girl you talk to knows about the subs you have and the one you are asking about though, because if they don't know, they will probably try to sell you something completely different. Also, check into any local car shows that may be going on, and see if they have an audio competition going on......there will be plenty of people to talk to at a place like that. Good luck!!

Mabye.

The RMS means the the speaker can handle more power. It may use this extra power to increase the volume but most of the time it uses it to give a cleaning output, so that you can turn the input up.

What you should do, is look at the db rating of the subs. Higher the db then high the loudness. Having two subs mean will only increase the rating by the max of 3db. understand?

But you also need to have a powerful enough amp to meet the power rating of you speaker(s). More people damage their speaker by underpowering them than overpowering them.

It all depends on the situation, small DJ'ing gigs with small set up areas (small cables runs) powered is ideal, providing you have sufficient power where you want your speakers. Live bands may require more power from your system so amps may be the option. Another plus to amps and passive speakers is you don't have to spread power to your speakers, instead run one single speaker cable to yur speakers from on power supply (the amp).

All depends on what you have running it. That number is just what it can handle. If you don't have a amp that is that power full, than it doesn't matter. either way, its what you have powering those speakers, one or two.
