For woman, it meant domination by man and pain in childbirth. None of these are things that God wanted for women (or men). God never said for men to dominate women. But God knew that was what was going to happen because of sin, and warned them about it. Same with childbirth. God did not punish women with pain in childbirth. But he knew it would come because of sin.

Why did the women get it instead of the men? Because the men do not have the right physical organs to have them. Duh!!
