My truck is wired with 8 gage moster cable. What is the biggest amp that i can run with out re-wireing my truck? Also best amp for the money? I am looking at Fosgate and MTX any suggjestions?

If you are talking power as in electric from the battery, you could be safe running 1000-1500 watt amp. With power like that, I would run a cap, and possibly locate a second battery to the back with the amp.

The best amp for the money, IMO is USAcoustics. It has the lowest THD of almost all amps, and you can find them relatively cheap.

It is not a matter of wattage - current is more relevant. As I recall 8 guage is pretty thick... wire lengths would be short in a truck, so I expect they are more than adequate - worry more about the amp (making sure it can deliver more power than your speaker ratings) and the speakers. The better brands all produce good equipment.

ps: power (watts) is not directly proportional to volume. To double the apparent volume, requires TEN TIMES the output to be just as undistorted.

It's not wattage your looking for. It is Amperage. I would not run more than 10 amps on 8 gauge wire. Anymore you risk melting it.

i wouldnt run more than 600 watts through 8 gauge...
