Calm down, hon - have you ever kissed anyone before? Kissing with braces is the same - you just need to be a little more careful :-) And, as I recall, you can get sore more quickly. You won't feel terribly amorous right after getting them tightened.

However, braces aren't such a major liability to your social life as a teen, because so many people have them. Just keep them clean (seriously - be compulsive about your oral hygiene. carry your toothbrush around and BRUSH after every meal, everywhere!) and follow your orthodontist's instructions to the letter so that you'll be out of them soonest.

As for not being in "main school" - are you homeschooled? You sound like you might be in the UK, and I'm in the US, so forgive me if I don't understand the lingo. My daughter was homeschooled for years, and it wasn't a social barrier in the least. We stayed involved in social groups and she had many friends - and met her boyfriend.

Get involved in something you enjoy. Try something new, even - give it a chance. This is the best time for it. I won't be tiresome and say these are the best years of your life, because they probably aren't, honestly. You've got so many years in front of you! :-) They can be great ones, though.

Good luck!

Why are you not in main school? Shame for you. However, there are ways round it. Firstly, join clubs - even if they seem a bit cheesy or whatever you would say nowadays. Secondly, one of my lovely children had braces and it didn't stop her snogging half the male population in the area! If you are interesting, fun and full of being 14, no little guy will resist. Make a list of the clubs in your area and join something. Its a baby step but with a little oomph you could have some fun. Oh, and don't run around being ashamed of your braces, act as if you love them, show people your teeth and go 'look at my brilliant braces' etc and they will think you are confident and amazing and envy you senseless. Get the jokes in first if anyone looks likely to take the mickey.

Leave the boyfriend idea alone until your braces are gone and you blossom properly out of childhood. Stop trying to be an adult and don't follow the rest of the sheep. Concentrate on your education and doing things that 14 year olds should do, if you want friends that badly, talk to other non popular kids, they probably feel just like you and need a friend just as much. Who knows, you might find they are nicer and more intelligent than the popular crew!

Well, I had the same thoughts when I was about your age, getting the lovely wire put on my teeth. It turned out just fine, I bet you'll be surprised at how easy kissing is even with the braces! I never cut my bf lips, and I never was that careful. Also, I dated a guy with braces as well, and we never got stuck together! Most of the horror stories you hear about braces don't happen anymore.

First off you don't have to kiss anyone! Hold his hand or something and know that when those braces are gone, you will have one of the best smiles on the block and in the school. When it is time for you to kiss and all that, you will be ready in more ways then one. Right now just let them enjoy you company and if they do not like that, then you did not need them around anyway! Boys and Men come and go, just love yourself enough to take it slow.

I had braces for 18 months when I was fourteen and they were the huge, bulky things on both sets of teeth. I was completely paranoid with them at first but I actually got my first boyfriend when I had my braces on. So many people have braces nowadays they have stopped becoming an ugly, geeky thing and have become totally normal. And as for kissing, you don't even notice that they're there! (unless ur boyf is into serious teeth sucking)
And by the end of it, you'll have super gorgeous teeth!

dont worry about it babe braces arent the end of the world! and just think of the outcome when you dont need them anymore.... your teeth will be straight! and about the friends thing dont worry about it honey... you should start to go to classes e.g. drama at the local community centre. you could even meet a nice fella there! good luck xxx

p.s the braces wont cut the guys lip or electricute him!

Relax , I bet all the others haven't had the experience they claim to have had , For me ? I would wish my love had a beautiful straight smile but I never had the privilege of braces. However after many years of slight dentistry I have a beautiful smile and am very proud of my teeth . For me its my opening line .......... my business card....... and when I greet a new acquaintance the first thing they see is my friendly face and nice unreserved smile , offer a broad solid handshake and your character is felt and apreciated. Hope this helps :O)

You sound like you are an interesting and amusing girl and irresistible to chaps and I think you will make the best of your braces as indeed you should. Perhaps avoid guys who also sport braces for when you kiss (and I say when) it will be like the clash of antlers. You will meet guys and you will know love.
