they'll need a bag of good healthy food pellet food NOT SEEDS which will be about 12.00$ a bag that lasts 2 or 3 months depending on how active they are. they will also need somekind of vegtable matter. just go the frozen section of your supermarket and pick up mixed veggies (3.00$ for again 2-3months depending on how much they like veggies). throw a tablespoon in a seperate dish in there every morning and be sure to remove them every night so they don't get stinky. then of course the cage which can range greatly in price. throw in a few toys and change them up every time you clean their cage too. small toys range anywhere from 2-12$. these will encourage them to be active and it will keep their brains challenged so you won't have feather plucking or any other self destructive behaviour.

what kind and where do you get your food for $12.00 a bag that lasts 2-3 mos??? A bag of pellets are about that yes, but feeding one bird with that bag, if it's lasting you more than a few weeks you aren't feeding that bird enough..that or you have NO idea what the actual requirements are on feeding avians.
Yes, getting frozen veg from the freezer section is ok in ADDITION to FRESH fruits and veggies, legumes, rices, beans, sprouts. The produce section of your supermarket should be your first stop WEEKLY.
Cage, obviously going to cost you a few hundred. Bottom line, don't be asking morons in yahoo answers about caring for pet birds because 3/4 of these people either give crap answers or are just plain stupid. Go to some breeder sites, read up on what the breeders have to say about the specific bird type. Different parrots species have different food requirements and care.
Take your time and don't rush into anything until you've done all your research. If you can't properly take care of a bird, you have no business getting it in the first place.
Good luck

Much.

The initial purchase is very, very cheap. A decent cage of a nice size to support two parrotlets and give them space will probably be around $200 to $500 depending on what kind of cage you get. Go for stainless steel or powder coated. Those are safest to birds and cannot be chipped away to reveal toxic metals.

Avian vet visits can be less than $100 (maybe closer to the $70 range) for well-bird health checkups. If your bird happens to be sick or has a problem to be treated, it can skyrocket into the thousands depending on what it is. You should visit the vet at least once a year for a well-bird check.

Medical emergencies call for a stowaway amount of money anywhere from $200 to $2,000 or more.

Good foods for parrotlets are a good mix of pellets. High quality, no artificial colours. Harrison's ($15 for a 1lb bag) and Roudybush ($15 for a 2.75 lb bag) are the best, and there are also Zupreem ($20 for a 2 lb bag) and TOPs (not sure about price, I've never bought before). They will probably eat around or a little under one and a half spoons of food. They also need a bit of seed, maybe 5% in their diet. I go through bags of seeds very slowly for five of my birds, so a 5 lb bag for $9 lasts almost a year because of is sparse use. Fresh foods need to be fed. They should be organically grown or washed very well with great care to clear pesticides. I'm not sure how much organic fruits and vegetables cost for you.

Toys are a must. If they are shredders, chewers, and destructive as parrots typically are with toys, toys need to be replaced often. One toy for a parrotlet sized bird is about $3 to $20. Their cage should be full of toys to keep them busy, and you should have extra toys on hand to do frequent rotations of toys in and out of the cage.

They need varying perches, which also need regular rotation. Natural wood and rope perches are best, cactus perches, manzanita, dragonwood, grapevine, etc. They need many different perches of many different widths, lengths, and textures. Perches generally range around $12 to $50.

It's very difficult to name a set price on one month.
