I think most Christians have the ability to think critically and logically but they are not interested in it. They don't see the value in it. There are some that are not smart enough to do it, but by and large I think it's just that they don't know how or don't see the point. Some are afraid of what they will find if they do it. If I have done anything on this board, I hope that I can get people to start thinking about why they believe.

I don't take pride in it, but the pleasures are split between opening someone's eyes to something they didn't know - can't you just tell that most of the people here spouting Pascal's Wager have had it drilled into them by their pastors, and never challenged, and they've been totally pwned when they tried it here - and in sending the boggle-eyed loons into a tailspin of frustration.
Plus at least five believers I know of have become agnostic on this site, and more agnostics have become atheists. Not bad for an internet forum.

tell you what click on my avatare click on my questions and review my question of patriotism's answers. Then reread the question and you will see who contributes to the stereo type. There are very sensitive immature people who are obviouslt atheists and even those atheists who are not sadists get sensitive when a question is even close to not atheistically edifying and misread questions assuming they are being persecuted when as this question demonstrates they were never stereo typed by the questioner.
If that does not answer your question nothing will.

Playing basketball with midgets... LOL... I'd never heard that before.
I recognize reality. That's all. I accept the only logical conclusion based on reason and rationality. I don't think of that as an egotistical position. I think of that as... well... a good thing.

My apologies in advance to those who quote (not misquote) scripture. I do not want to be hypocrite and falsely accuse.

It's called an "ad hominem" argument. If you can't attack the argument, attack the person. On the other hand, there have been a few references to the limited brainpower of some of the Christian cultists so I can't say we atheists are entirely blameless - although we are free of original sin.

Because, "...most of us are more like average men playing basketball with midgets..." is an egotistical statement. Look in the mirror and there's your answer.

Because theists are often very ignorant about atheists, and make all kinds of assumptions about us that are not true. Maybe it makes them feel less ashamed about worshiping a killer God who commands them to hurt and kill people.

Exactly - we don't say we're smart (necessarily) but we're bound to look like ruthless geniuses when dealing with people whose beliefs are so ignorant and simplistic that many children would be embarrassed by them!

People always think you are egotistical if you are right and they are wrong.
