I think it's a good idea to get engaged atleast after a year and a half or so. You go through all the seasons, you know the person by now, you are comfortable with them, you know their flaws and still love them, etc.
You don't want to rush into marriage. Marriage is a BIG DEAL. I think too many people think they're in love, so they rush and get married... then find out later, they made a big mistake. Ever wonder why there's such a high divorce rate? Yeah...

I think I would want to be dating the guy at least a year before I got engaged. That way we know each other well and it's not a giddy, beginning of the relationship impulse. However, some people experience true love at first sight. And in that case, why wait?

Completely dependent upon the people in the relationship, for some people it may take less or more time than others. Get engaged when it feels right to you.

I have a friend who got engaged 6 weeks in, married 6 weeks after the engagement. He got some surprises, even though this was a woman he had known for a couple of years.
Another got married after 6 months. His marriage seems great, even if I thought they moved fast.
That's why I always tell my friends to slow down. Date for a year, at least. Not that they seem to listen. I understand the rush. There's a woman I would ask to marry me tomorrow, if it were feasible, and we aren't even dating. But you cannot make those kinds of decisions based only on the feelings.

Long enough for the both of you to be absolutely BE positive this is what you both want for the rest of your lives! Knowing very well what the divorce rate is now days, should help you realize what a serious decision this is. If you feel you cannot live without each other, and would want to see the other one happy, even if it meant you wouldn't be-I'd say go for it. LOVE SHOULD NEVER HURT!!!!

i dont think there is any set time to get engaged. but i think you should be together for awhile before jumping into it. a lot of people just do it to do it. because they have been together for awhile and that seems like the next step. i think it's on a person to person basis.

I dont think there is a specific time... its different for everyone. Just wait until there is no doubt in your mind that you want only that person forever, no matter what happens. When the time is right you will jsut know
