I am 22 years old and am planning to get a tattoo on my right arm about 6 or 7 inches high enough to hide most of it with regular sleeves. My brother is a talented artist and has created it for me. I have been planning this for a year and taking it to local shops and have been qouted 300$ I want it to represent my innocence. I work as a realtor and am caught between classy and trashy. I don't think it should matter but I know it does affect the line of work I'm in. I don't want to hide it because I want to be proud of it and for it to stop people in their tracks and ask where I had it done. Can a woman still be classy with that size of tattoo?

That's a great question. It depends on the quality, size, quantity and location of the tatoos.

You can still be classy if the tatoo is small and discreet - it's well hidden, and only revealed to the lucky few. If it's big and out there, or it's too visible, you will lose your 'classy-ness'.

If you intend to wear ball-room dresses that reveals your entire arms and shoulders, you can't put it on your arm or shoulder. Most likely, you will have to place it strategically that is easy enough to cover up. Wear your classiest dress and see if your tatoo will show. That's the best way to find out where to put the tatoo and keep it hidden.

Also, if you have too many tatoos, it becomes hard to hide them, and you will lose your 'classy-ness' also. Keep 'em as few as possible if you want to look classy.

I consider myself to be classy....I am a stay at home mother of three, but i am also an artillery army officer's wife, my husband is in the Canadian Forces. Once a year we attend a June Ball(very formal and classy), which is one of the biggest highlights of my year. I usually wear a spaghetti strap gown, or a strapless one.
So when i finally decided to get a tattoo, one that I have wanted for awhile to represent my kids, I didn't want it on my upper body, or my arms, I ended up getting it on my right leg, just a little bit higher than the ankle, so when I wear my gown, it won't be seen unless I show it off.
But...when I wear a bathing suit, shorts, or a shorter dress, it can be seen, even through black pantyhose which I wear to church.
My tattoo is of a pink rose-represents my older daughter(9), blue/purple butterfly-represents my youngest daughter(5)her fav colors, and she also loves butterflies, and a red heart-represents my son age 2 1/2, it was a way of always having my children with me, even when they are grown.

So you might want to think about getting it somewhere that it will not be conspicuous, but where you have the option of showing it off when you want.

Hope this helps.

Classiness isn't determined by a tattoo...seen some very classy individuals with them and some very trashy and ignorant people w/out them. You will get some judgemental people that will make comments about it and you do need to think about your professionalism because not everyone accepts and/or likes them. Because you are a realator, it does affect your job because people's first impressions of you and your appearance does matter. I would prob make sure that you can hide it if desired....but show it if you also desire.

Not really. I have tattoos too but if it's that big and on your arm, women really aren't considered classy by having it there. I know you want to be proud of it, but there are other places that you can get it that won't be as bad. Seeing as you are in the professional world, you need to think about your clients and most older people are set in their ways and not really open to that. Some people also think that it shows irresponsibility and a bad persona. This isn't how I feel but I'm telling you the reaction that I get from others. Also think if you want a wedding and you have it big in your arm. An arm usually isn't a great placement for a women, even a man can look pretty bad with it on their arms. Just consider your future with it instead of just the moment and saying a statement. Mine is on my back and people still ask me where I got it and what it means and all those typical questions. You don't have to put it on display in front of everyone to be noticed... they will notice it regardless.

Well, first of all make sure you can wear short sleeves to work and not show it- I think there is a place and time to show off a tattoo and work is not one of them. But I don't think having a tattoo makes one trashy- acting trashy and cheap does. I know plenty of professional women who have a tattoo or two and I myself have one on my lower back. I've heard people call those "tramp stamp" but really I could care less. The people that usually say that have nothing to show off to begin with, so they are simply jealous.

Anyone can have tattoos and still be classy. I for one have 4 tattoos, am a secretary, and consider myself quite classy. I also know a few women that have tattoos that are real estate agents, executive managers, etc. and they too are very classy. Having tattoos or not having tattoos doesn't make you classy or unclassy it's how you present yourself. If that's what you want I say go for it!
Hope this helps and happy tattooing!

I am a professional tattoo artist, and my body is 90% covered in tattoos. In my workplace, this is acceptable, encouraged even. One of my current clients is a female doctor, about 40 years old, who is well on her way to being fully tattooed. But she will not tattoo her hands, face, or neck. She knows that she needs to be able to hide her tattoos, but it's also important to her that she be able to show them off. So go for it on your arm, if that's what will make you happy. As I always say, to each their own. I'm not the best person to be giving advice about discreet tattoos, since even my face is covered in ink.

are you kidding? of course you can be! i have a friend who has about a 1/4 sleeve and she has a masters degree in counseling. i have a very huge tattoo and i'm not trashy. your actions make you trashy. not a tattoo. i would be wary of places quoting you flat rate prices for a tattoo that long unless it is not very wide. i would look at portfolios and worry less about price. my tattoo artist charges by the hour and he's not cheap, but good tattoos never are.

Yes, but you do need to conceal the tattoo at work, cause most people that are looking to buy houses expect the realtor to be precise and clean and the tattoo might throw them off.

of course we can. tattoos if done right are beautiful pieces of art that display our own interests, beliefs, feelings etc....a tattoo is only trashy if the artist has done a poor job at it, or if its an overly cliche thing like tribals, or the butterfly. You should be proud of what you are getting...because its something thats impoertant to you.
