I'm almost 18 years old..and this has been going on for years. I'm not taking any medications or exercise so much that I'd be that fatigued all the time. I know that adolescants tend to need more sleep to function..but this is crazy. I'm not currently in school, not employed...and this is partially because I feel so lazy and sluggish all the time. But can depression really have that much of an affect on my sleeping patterns? I mean, I usually sleep at least 10 hours a night...and if my boyfriend tries to wake me up or my alarm clock goes off before that, forget it. I won't even hear the alarm! Also, I usually feel the need to have a 2-3 hour nap during the afternoon, and even after that, I feel groggy. Could I have anemia? or lacking iron? Can anyone relate to my situation?

Depression, Anemia, Thyroid, Low B-12 levels, lack of physical movement, even cold months. All can lead to tiredness. Go see a doctor and tell them to check you out. I know how you feel and it turned ou that I was anemic.

Hey girl, I hear you and have such sympathy and compassion for you. Being tired and groggy all of the time really sucks, especially when other people call you lazy for it. Let me ask a few questions, when your awake and feel really awake are you extremely hyper? Even if it's only once in a while? I am 25 years old and I had the extreme tiredness and felt like I was on sedatives. The days when I would feel awake, I would be hyper. I am now dating a doctor and he said something to me about it one day, come to find out I have ADHD...ha ha! Your mind races too fast for you to keep up with it so your mentally tired which in turn makes you physically tired as well. I am now on adderall and happy and awake like normal people, nice load off of my shoulders. If this sounds like you, look up some information on-line. Depression and Bipolar disorder also causes tiredness, look into it, and do go to your family doctor. Don't be embarrassed because Trust me, life is better when your awake. There is a cure for whatever the problem may be. I felt like I was released from a sleeping cell and I love it. I hope you find an answer, my prayers will definitely be with you and my heart goes out to you. Best of luck!

I had anemia in my teen years with almost the exact symptoms as you. I went to the doctor and he had blood tests done and I was lacking iron. So you might want to pay a visit to the doc it's important to your overall health.
Also if you are on birth control the extra hormones can add to the fatigue of anemia, so go to the doc and see what he or she thinks.

You might try taking an iron suppliment, this will probably help with your energy levels.
Ferrous Glucomate 300mg.
Avaliable @ your local drugstore for about $7.99
Or you could try eating some broccoli or spinach... same effect.
As mad as it sounds you might try to get less sleep, around 7-8 hours for a few days and your body will start to perk up.

Hope it helps.

My ex-girlfriend was the same way. She would wake up at like 8 am and then fall asleep by 8 or 9 pm. Iron deficiency is a possiblilty or mono.

Depression will make you sleep a lot also.

The doctor never found anything wrong with my ex-girlfriend. I would suggest a trip to the doctor. It wouldn't hurt to check.

I would definitely go to the doctor and get a complete blood work up done. If all that comes back ok then it is probably depression. You would be surprised what depression can do to you, it can be very debilitating. Either way, better to get some help.

It's your metaboism! The problem is you're not active enough, and problably the foods you eat. I bet you smoke too! I find that when you seep more than 5 hours a day it makes you want to sleep more. Try some vitamin B. It might help.
