Rubber soled shoes or boots.

I've lived in places with heavy winters. I always used snow boots, with good rubber bottoms that have a good tread on them.. Not too pretty but much safer. Bring extra shoes if you have to work in an office. If in town shop owners are supposed to keep the sidewalks safe by shoveling and salting etc. But in a neighborhood the homeowner should clear his own part of a sidewalk, kitty litter can help too...to give a little grit to walk on.
