Well, for me right now - a new baby. But seriously before I went to church regularly what kept me away was the fact that I didn't believe a word of what was being said and I needed to work Sundays to make a living and just needed some time to relax. For most people, they need a full heart/life change to make regular church attendance a high enough of a priority to actually show up. Some people don't believe in religion and I can understand why - I have a friend who doesn't believe in organized churches because he's been kicked out of 2 or 3 already because of wanting to take charge and be in control of church administration. Anyone can build a list of complaints about church. But for people like me, okay - I'm not going there to control people, make a name for myself, earn brownie points with God, feel better about myself, try to get into heaven or try to see what I can get out of it. I go to worship God with likeminded people and connect with and serve others in obedience to the way God recommends I live my life within the boundaries of the bible. With a motivation like mine - all of the reasons I could have for not going to church are irrelevant to me.

OH GOD!! I could write a book about that. Anyhow, my experience when I was growing up is that people don't follow what they preach. As years went by ..first it was give what you can give, NOW its a percentage of what you earn from your wages, then its everything you like or do is evil! One thing I hate for people to tell me is how to dress, churches focus too much on how a person's appearance is. And when certain families don't show up for church, the congregation says the demons have them and then they start talking about other people!!! That is wrong!! The church becomes your family, and they want you to start hanging out with them and joining them on field trips and ****, its like a cult. And the thing I hate most of all is the pastor litterally becomes a god in peoples eyes, every time they have a problem they go to the pastor!!! What can he do, that others can't , no one is more holier than another, and people treat pastors like gods, they trust and believe in anything they say, if they say jump off a cliff, these people would!! Well...that's all I'm gonna say for now...

I believe that the main stream churches of todays time have been influnced by outside sourcces and there for are not a credable source of information or worship. Take into account that the bible that everyone uses is verry incomplete and only contains what the vatican allowed to be put in to suit thier needs. there are various other texts or gospels as they are called that main stream religion counts off as lies of fiction that actually have a more insightful knowledge than those which are in the bible. There for i will continue to warship god only from the confines of my own home in hopes that someday the truth will come out.

I went to church for the first thirteen years of my life. The reason I quit was because the sermons that I heard over and over didn't make sense to me.
When I try to figure there's a father, a son, and a ghost but they're all just one guy. Then we hear that Jesus is the son and God is the father. But the father didn't impregnate the mother. She was impregnated by the ghost. So the father is not the father. The ghost is the father.
Then the priest explaines it by saying that the three are one God in three persons. The proper word for more than one person is people. Lincoln didn't say, " Of the persons, for the persons, by the persons ". The preamble doesn't say," We, the persons ".
What does the church try to hide by inventing words for its use only ? You're quite welcome.

I don't go to church because I prefer not to accept somebody elses beliefs as what's "right". Whenever you go to church you are only hearing one person's interpretation of the gospel, which of course as with anything can be interpreted a million different ways - look how many christian churches there are, all using the same bible, all interpreting it different ways. I think the only way to truly believe in any type of gospels is to read it yourself and let your own heart tell you what's true.

Im not Christian. When I was,I did go,I was "on fire". But now Im not. I just dont agree with too much of the religion, though I am not against it or the followers. I dont believe Jesus to be so unmerciful, vengeful and egocentric. I dont believe a kind God will send anyone to an eternal fire over such strict and again, egocentrical guidelines. I believe God to be much more understanding and realistic,as well as more compassionate then that.

1.) It's too early, and the 6pm service has no sermon, and it just a prayer service.
2.) I have to force 3 boys and a husband to wake up and get showered and dressed and fed just to simply start pinching and poking them awake during the service (because it's too early).
3.) Church gossips. My life isn't perfect, but it's darn near the best thing most people have seen (no, I don't put on aires- it's added work I don't care for) but people are quick to find flaws and gossip about it...don't care for that crap either.
4.) Sermons don't really hit home, not information rich enough for me. It would seem our new pastor isn't really into the meat and potatoes of the history of Christianity- so it seems like a light meal...more like jello (not very filling for the spirit)

I do believe in Jesus however now a days it seem that churchs' are filled with too much hipocracy.. I think churches are based on man made rules and not based on what the bible tells us. I would rather read the bible and teach it to my kids my self.

I'm Deist. We don't have churches. The very concept of organized religion would be against the principles of Deism. All must find God their own way.

The reasons may very, but ultimately is because of lack of faith, wether you don't believe at all, or if you believe that you don't "need" to go to church in order to follow your religion.
