*sigh* This is exactly why I asked the question about why Christians have such a problem understanding the meaning of "theory". I assume that by "theory", you mean "an assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a guess; conjecture; speculation".
Guess what? That's NOT what it means in the context of science. Here is what "theory" means when we're talking about a SCIENTIFIC theory:
"A scientifically accepted general principle supported by a substantial body of evidence offered to provide an explanation of observed facts & as a basis for future discussion or investigation."
"A logically self-consistent model or framework for describing the behavior of a related set of natural or social phenomena, originating from &/or supported by experimental evidence. A systematic & formalized expression of all previous observations that is predictive, logical & testable."
"A theory is an explanation of a set of related observations or events based upon proven hypotheses & verified multiple times by detached groups of researchers."
The concept of "god" is inconsistent, impossible and often incomprehensible. Why should I believe in something that is contradictory, totally illogical, totally nonsensical and vague to the point of being unworthy of my time and consideration? And no, it's NOT a theory in the sense that "gravity" and "evolution" are theories. It's a "theory" in the sense that it is "a guess; conjecture; speculation". These two kinds of theories are NOT on equal footing.

There is no proof as there is no proof for evolution or the big bang. It is a belief and the others are theories. No 2 people believe the exact same thing so some people are going to believe in a higher being and others are not which is not a problem. Where the problem exists is when one group trys to convert the other group. Let each person believes what he or she wants and you would then have peace. Good luck with that.

The big bang. Universe is expanding, Background noise. Proof positive, no, evidence to support, absolutely. Earth made in 7 days, give me a break. Earth is 6000 years old, go get help.
Evolution. Fossil record, dinosaurs, Lucy, selection of the fittest seen daily. Proof positive yes. Two people with identical DNA spawned a population of billions with varied DNA, come on now, you don't believe that do you.
God. A tree was a god, a river was a god, a mountain, a rock, a crystal, even an airplane was a god to an African tribe. Your god, knows all, sees all, etc, etc. Honestly I see absolutely no evidence to indicate any supreme Deity. And I was a religious man at one time.
I was born to and baptized Methodist
Family move and we started Presbyterian
I was ordained Universal
I was stabbed in the back and watched hundreds of "Christians" sneak around and make a mockery of my faith. When I couldn't see anything God was doing I walked away and I never looked back.
If you or anyone else has any real evidence, I would love to see it. I would like nothing better than to have something real to put my faith in besides my own abilities. Unfortunately I don't. And If you intend to present evidence, it cannot start with "I believe" or "according to the Bible". It must be real, tangible evidence.
That is how this Atheist sees it. And I have looked at it for decades.

Big bang? The CMB! Evolution? Fossil record, girl. In scientific terms, "theory" means "hypothesis with evidence." Creationists try to challenge us with their unflinching ignorance, but no matter how much they speak of the irreducible complexity of the wing or the missing link, us atheists are here to explain Biology 101 stuff over and over. If you are under about 18, were homeschooled, or just never got interested enough in bio to take a course you are automatically forgiven for not knowing that stuff off the top of your head.
Why don't I believe in your God? OK, why don't you believe in Krishna or Allah or the Earth Mother and reject the "miracles" reported by their respective believers? In truth, I am only skeptical about one more god than you.

No, those theories aren't proven, but we they are are best guess to what is actually going on. Humans have been trying to figure out through research what is going on, why things happen, and these are our best guessses(although they aren't really guesses, there is proof for some things, such as evolution). Using God as an excuse for everything kind of defeats the purpose of using science.

Why do religious people believe in whatever it is they believe in? They claim without a doubt that God does exist. Most of the stuff in the bible are theories and yet they still believe them. Those things are not proven yet they still believe in it.
Just like you, Im curious about why?

perchance they * shouldn't *. If God extremely gave all and diverse loose will, then atheists, for although reason, have determined no longer to believe. As someone above already stated, "arguing" for God's existence is comparatively moot. interior the top, someone will believe because the Holy Spirit finally convicted them of the reality. If one does no longer believe interior the Holy Spirit, i do not see that happening. If an atheist makes a decision their modern-day existence would not sense "right", they are going to search for something else. Do Christians have a "more effective perfect" existence because of God? seem at Paul, he became overwhelmed, whipped and run out of city for his beliefs. Christians might want to say Christianity brings them convenience. An atheist might want to retort that they want no such crutch. Christians might want to say they sin a lot less. Ha! Neither has a lock on morality. You suggested that we can't use "the afterlife" as a help for why Christianity is more effective perfect. If the type of predicament is placed on the reaction, then we ought to stay with reports in this earth. if so, if we decrease our reaction to existence in the international, shall we locate that the atheist might want to * continuously * think of their existence is more effective perfect as an unbeliever. that is not till you develop right into a believe that your attitude alterations to comprise the afterlife. --- further ---- i spotted you stated both "interior the destiny" and "brushing aside the afterlife". To a Christian, both are inseparable.

We believe the theories of evolution and the big bang because there is sufficient evidence for them. On the other hand, there is no evidence for god. Also, the term "theory" does not imply tentativeness - look it up. Gravity is also a theory.
EDIT: Our minds are open. That is one difference between us and Christians. Their minds are closed. Give us convincing evidence and we will believe it.

Is this a joke?
There is at least empirical evidence supporting current scientific theories, and no one says they're set in stone. If tomorrow, the scientific community presented reliable evidence that the world was created when the Cosmic Persian Cat spat up a hairball, I'd believe that. Personally, I think the odds of the Christian creation and the Persian Cat creation are about the same.

My mind was open from day zero studying this stuff, but I was also analytical, comparing and contrasting various theories until my eyes were weary and my head ached. Bottom line, when I settled on the Buddhist philosophy of why there is no creator god... I fail at being able to refute the Buddha's logic and neither has anyone else, for thousands of years... not really.
