okay this is a very good observation. basically this is just of my kit. It can be customized to idividual needs for instance i do not need space blankets here..I live in a hurricane zone..hawaii and I wanted to devlop a system where in the event of a hurricane or other natural disaster..psunami..we would be able to be ready in 15 minutes. Okay I have this kit set up which containes over 200 items from freeze dried foods to a crank operated radio. this has up to 4, 50 gallon hard rubber totes..availability to drop ship items such as large generators.

Just a few observations: 1 - power was out for most residents for more than 5 days.

2. If you are going to keep it in the house for Hurricane victims, you are competing against being able to cook on gas or propane stoves, and eating canned foods.

3. 4 huge totes take up a lot of space that could better be used for things like MREs, etc.

That being said, I would market my wares to others. Like the guy that died hiking because his car got lost. But then you would have to have a tote that could fit into the trunk of a car.

If you were to change your market, you would do better.

Hurricane prepardness is dependent upon the citizens desire to prepare. The problem New Orleans had is that they underestimated the strength and size of the storm and assumed that since it landfalled east of them, that there would be less of a problem. The problem the Mississippi Gulf Coast had was that there had never been a storm of the magnitude of Katrina to hit US shores. Even though people were wiped out on the coast, there was still an ability to obtain supplies required to sustain life for several weeks.

What the shortage was: Fuel and Ice.
