Discovery of sperm whales off the coast of Chile in 1791, by a six ship American fleet abandoning the over-hunted Atlantic, opened the Pacific to predators upon the prized mammals. Chilean waters became overcrowded by New England whalers, 1819 the fleets moved to equalforial waters bordering Peru. 1820 Am. whalers were scanning waters close to Japan and then to Pacific Northwest. Grounds were lush in the Arctic-opened up-Pacific became a whalers sea. So. of Australia, W-of No. Amer. to the Orient. The Hawaiian Isles. became the center hub of the wheel.
During the same time,"Puritans" - (missionaries) led by Rev. Bingham and Rev. Thurston from Boston, boarded the Thaddeus and sailed to Hawaii to ..."teach us civilization..." We were perceived as savages. With these factors, at the same time... created, "Hawaiian Imperialism". With Hawaii being the size it is with thousands of trade ships arriving, we were too few and too new to foreign customs - it over-whelmed us. With clear observation of being naive to these customs, an opportunity was taken by France,America and England.for self gain.

Queen Liliuokalani was the last reigning monarch of the Hawaiian islands. She felt her mission was to preserve the islands for their native residents. In 1898, Hawaii was annexed to the United States and Queen Liliuokalani was forced to give up her throne.

Queen Liliuokalani was deposed by the advocates of a Republic for Hawaii in 1893.

Same reasons as for everyplace else--- bigger more powerful nations wanted what belonged to the people who lived here had--- the land, the resources, etc. Being bigger and more powerful, they fought over it and took it.
