My boyfriend got arrested by a NYPD officer because he was riding his bike on the sidewalk. Despite the fact that he was riding at a very slow pace (not quicker than the average pedestrian), he was summoned. On the pink sheet he was given, a date of appearance is mentionned. I think that he has to show up at that precise date. But he understood that he had to show up anytime between now and the date of appearance. What is the right interpretation?

Do you know what charges he is facing?

He was given NO ticket so he cannot pay anything for the moment.

I am Retired NYPD...Something doesn't sound right. Could be he had a bad interaction with the Officer. (I am trying to be nice) If he was arrested and brought to the Pct and then to Central Booking he was most likely given a Desk Appearance Ticket aka D.A.T. If that is the case then he must appear on the date specified. If he was given a summons at the scene he can appear at anytime to plead guilty and pay the fine. If he intends to plead not guilty he should show up on the date specified on the summons. Please advise your boyfriend that if he does not appear it will turn a minor situation into a warrant that will come back to haunt him in the future. Good Luck.

It must be a slow crime day to get arrested for riding a bike on a side walk. Remind me to never live there.

Just pay the ticket...that is all.
