Obviously the upgrade is cheaper but I worry that an upgrade might just put Vista over the top of XP which doesn't sound as efficient as a clean install of the full version. Does anybody know how it works? Would there be a performance drop in upgrading an existing XP system compared to installing full Vista on a clean hard drive?

Man, They Always Say There Is. But In Real Life Its Adding More
Data To Your Hard Drive So It Still Loads Slow. It All Depends On
Your Computer. Unless They Made Files Load Fast Or Such..

The only performance issues, just like there is with upgrading from windows 2000 to XP is extra data on ur drive.
with vista being such a large operating system and being memory intensive you may notice some performance issues which may not even be related to upgrading.
upgrading from XP is alot easyier if u currently have XP on. my only advise is to ensure you backup your work and tidy it all up before performing the update.

You can select a clean install which rips off XP and puts Vista in it's place.

yes when u upgrade it still leaves things behind making ur pc slower, but when u install from scratch it cleans ur hard drive

oh yeah!
full install is slower to do, but once you're done, it is definately faster than upgrading.
upgrading breaks stuff, and leaves a huge mess on your hard drive.
