The #1 cheese to put on a pizza is mozzarella (which is Italian and normally made with buffalo milk - doesn't have much taste unless it's top quality; Edam is Dutch and has slightly more taste).
Then you can add any cheese that melts (yes, there are cheeses that don't melt!), especially if you want an all-cheeses pizza - avoid, however, putting both blue cheese and goat cheese as it'll make it too salty.

On Pizza, you can put what you like. It really depends on what you are looking for. Mozzarella when heated or melted goes all stringy, i find it is not a very strong flavoured cheese. Edam is a semi hard cheese, that has a almost waxy like flavour to it, not that salty. I would suggest some mature cheddar, either English or Irish grated on top, both have excellent flavours which nicely compliment tomatoes. Or you could go for a mozzarella base cheese with parmesan sprinkled on the top. But really it is up to you, experiment till you find the one you really like.

Edam is different. Traditionally it's no cheese at all, the Italian's use pesto, all kinds of veggies and meats. A pizza is actually a dinner pie.
But enough of that, you can actually use any kind of cheese you want. They all taste fabulous. Especially Provolone with Mozzarella. Or Fete try them all.

Mozzarella is the typical Italian cheese to use on pizza. But you can use any good melting cheese, including Taleggio and Fontina, which are much tastier. Mozzarella has a stretchy quality and doesn't go too greasy when heated; if you put cheddar on your pizza you may get little pools of oil because it has a high fat content. If you want to have oil on a pizza you might as well drizzle on a little olive oil as it's healthier! Swiss cheese could be a good alternative to the Italian cheeses above - eg Emmental (with the large holes).

Virtually all authentic Italian recipes use mozzarella, and I personally wouldn't use anything else. (Of course eg. the 'four cheese' type must by definition have three others.) There are some regional specialities that call for something else, but they're very much the exception to the rule.
Edam is no good at all, I'm afraid, as its texture is not suitable for melting and the taste is wrong, too. Of course, if your mate likes it on his pizza then I guess there's no law against it...

Traditionally mozzarella or Parmesan, but you can put whatever kinds of cheese you like. I almost always add extra cheese to frozen pizza and that ends up being whatever is in the refrigerator, usually shredded cheddar.

Mozarella is the correct cheese to use. Edam has a low fat content and goes rubbery when melted. A combination of Mozarella and Cheddar is good

You can put anything you want to on a pizza. I like sauce, mozzarella, spinach, sliced black olives, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, and then Feta cheese. Feta is salty too, but a little melted on top is really good!
