Very much so. If you watch the extras on the first dvd's you'll see George Lucas saying, almost, those exact words.

of course it was inspired by religion. you have the whole christ scenerio there. the birth of the messiah who is led into temptation but resists to become a leader of a movement towards change. a belief that good will triumph over evil. & I never saw the extras on the dvd. I don't own it yet. and if you think Star Wars is the only messiah based movie then take a better look at the Matrix trilogy or a deeper look at the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

It was based on a variety of religions, taking some of their best parts. (In the end, though, the Jedi philosophy really doesn't make much sense. A Jedi is not passive, or neutral, though they claim to be, etc)
The Jedi philosophy was basically "Religion's Greatest Hits"

Lucas drew heavily from Joseph Campbell's book "Hero With A Thousand Faces", which advances the theory that all myths have essentially the same structure. Since religion (don't kill me) is essentially a collection of myths that have been assigned sacred status, you could make the argument that Star Wars is based on all religions.

Its almost possible. The original 1976 Star Wars Movie was based on a Japanese Movie called "Message from Space" there are a good number of Buddhists in Japan, so I guess it is possible.

I Don't think so although I'm a Muslim, we Muslim also believe in bible (but in your bible there are a lot of tings changed so the original message of god is change) as far your question is concerned star wars is a creation a human imagination but all the holy books(including Bible and Quran) are from god only. all novels like star wars and harry potter contain things which a simple person can prove to be false but till today any of the scientist is unable to prove the power of god.

Lukas has Christian roots, they appear in some aspects of Star Wars. Oterwise they are inspired by Indian and Chinese religons, Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism. You can also find similariites with Judaim, Islam, Zoroastrism, or Paganism.

It was heavily influenced by Buddhism and some aspects of Christianity. In fact, a book was written in the very late 70's on that particular subject after only the first flick was released. It was that obvious with one film, and the other movies only solidified that belief.

The best psychological thrillers and stories are inspired by religion and the supernatural.
But the atheists will tell you that religion is a crutch of the mind, tomfoolery, and nothing short of lies strung together for others to control you by.
I suppose all the strength derived from ones faith is a figment of everyone's imagination--

Well, duh.
Its a mythical adventure, the farm boy the princess, the vagabond with a heart of gold, a good wizard and an evil wizard?
Its not really science fiction at all.
