Feline Spraying (also called marking) is a cat depositing a small amount of urine on vertical surfaces, such as furniture, doorways and walls. The spraying cat may be seen to back into the area, the tail may quiver, and with little or no crouching the cat sprays the urine.

Spraying is marking behavior, not a litter box problem. The cat does not need to pee, he is leaving a message for other cats.

Actually, cats do spray urine to mark their territory. It's normal for cats and it's part of the communication between cats to establish and define boundaries and reassure the cat that the area is familiar. Marking of territory involves the spraying of not only urine, but other pheromones from glands strategically located on the cat's body (the facial area, around the tail and even in the foot pads) More than 17 different substances acting as chemical markers have been found in cats.

I'm not sure what "seim" is, but cat spray is in fact urine (pee). That's whyt it smells so bad.

It's mostly urine, with a little seminal material - mostly degenerated sperm. The distinctive odor comes from a compound which is derived from testosterone.

Neutering the cat will eventually remove the characteristic tomcat odor from their urine, and diminish - but not necessarily extinguish - the urge to spray.

It's urine. Your cat is marking his territory. Neutering the cat usually takes care of this problem.

It is urine. You can smell it after they do it. Its just like a dog marking territory, with urine.

You and your sister in law are both totally correct. Cats spray semen and urine. Cats that are neutered can still spray, but it is not semen, it is in deed their urine. Then again, cats that are not nutered are typically spraying semen not urine, but not always. Cats spray both, and sometimes a mix of the two. When it has a stronger smell than urine, it is semen.
